Fury was in fear of being drugged after fight

fury467By Tim Fletcher: Tyson Fury (25-0, 18 KOs) couldn’t relax after his in last Saturday night over Wladimir Klitschko (64-4, 53 KOs) due to his fear of being drugged if he drank water. Fury felt that this was something that would potentially be done by Klitschko’s camp for some reason.

Fury beat Klitschko by a 12 round unanimous decision to take his IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight titles at the ESPRIT Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany. With the victory intact, the 27-year-old Fury felt uneasy about drinking anything until he got back to his hotel room, according to Sky Sports. Fury believed that if he drank something, it would lead to him failing the drug test for the fight.

“I went home dehydrated before I even touched anything, I was so frightened of being drug-tested and failing the drugs test,” Fury said to skysports.com. “They are cheats. They are extremely good at cheating.”

Fury doesn’t give any examples of cheating by team Klitschko. We know that before the fight that Fury and his trainer Peter Fury had issues with the soft ring canvas that they requested to be changed to make it firmer. They also had problems with the taping of the gloves. But there was nothing that you could point at to suggest that there was any cheating by the Klitschko camp. It just appears to be paranoia on Fury’s part.

Fury is someone who has just won something very valuable in beating Klitschko to take his four world titles, and now he appears paranoid about it being taken away from him by others.

There are now a lot of heavyweights – Deontay Wilder, David Haye and Anthony Joshua – lining up trying to get a fight against Fury to try and take his belts from him. Instead of Fury being overjoyed at all the big money fights he’s got in front of him, he’s turning his potential opponents away by ruling out fights with him. These are fighters that would make Fury big money if he would agree to fight them, but he’s not interested in any of them right now.

“All these people can do what they want. I’m not really interested in boxing at the moment,” Fury said. I’ve had a full six months of boxing. I’ve had a full six months of it. It’s like winning the lottery and still buying lottery tickets – I’m not bothered. I’m heavyweight champion of the world and I’m trying to get used to that at the moment. Nothing about fighting, training. I’m not thinking about anything.”

Fury will likely be facing Wladimir in a rematch in early 2016. There’s language in their contract for a rematch, and both fighters have said they want to face each other again. Fury feels very confident about beating Klitschko a second. It’s a fight that could take place in England if the two fighters can agree on it. Fury’s trainer Peter Fury would like for the fight to take place at Wembley Stadium in London.

It’s a big venue, and it’s unclear if there’s enough interest in a second fight between the two heavyweights to sellout the large 80,000 seat stadium. Fury and Wladimir looked really poor in one of the dullest heavyweight fights in quite some time. If the boxing public still has a memory of last Saturday’s fight by next year, they opt to stay away in droves from a second Klitschko vs. Fury fight.
