Eubank Sr hands over complete control to Adam Booth to train Chris Jr

booth343By Scott Gilfoid: Chris Eubank Sr has handed over the complete control of the training of his son Chris Eubank Jr (19-1, 14 KOs) over to well-known trainer Adam Booth to guide his career and hopefully take him to the next level.

Eubank Sr believes that Booth can take Eubank Jr to the next level and lead him to world titles and to a victory over IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin in the near future.

Eubank Sr already thought that Eubank Jr could beat Golovkin even before Booth became his trainer, but with him he expects Eubank Jr’s skills to be polished and enhanced.

This Saturday night, Eubank Jr will be defending his WBA interim middleweight title against #13 WBA Tony Jeter (20-4-1, 14 KOs) at the Sheffield Arena in Sheffield, UK. The fight will be the main event on Sky Sports 1, replacing the Diego Chaves vs. Kell Brook headliner fight. Brook suffered a rib injury recently, and can’t take the fight at this time.

“I’m looking to have Adam [Booth] polish junior’s fierceness. Junior is actually listening and applying everything he’s being told,” Eubank Sr said via skysports.com. “I’ve actually given him carte blanch to do as he sees fit. Junior is responding very well to his advice. It gives me the ability to step back. He is his own man, and he does have the ability that I’m saying he has. We can mold him into anything that we feel, which is what Adam and I are doing. We see flashes of brilliance. With any kind of steering, which is what we’re getting with Adam Booth, I think we can do it now, but time; it’s just time. In my view, look at Junior and look at Gennady Golovkin. I see junior having the beating of him. If he took the fight now it would, it would bring him to the next level,” Eubank Sr said.

Booth can only work with what’s given to him. In other words, he’s not going to be able to turn Eubank Jr into a world beater just by his instructions. Can Booth improve Eubank Jr? I doubt it. Eubank Jr has lead feet, and can’t move to save his life.

Booth’s fighters have a predictable fighting style where they move in circles around the ring, darting in to land one or two hard shots before darting back to the outside. That’s basically it. That fighting style is only effective against limited fighters without a lot of talent or clueless ones who don’t know how to handle that. That style doesn’t work for fighters with slow feet like Eubank Jr. It’s also a style that is easily defeated by a fighter that can cut off the ring like Golovkin.

I don’t think that style would even work against Billy Joe Saunders, because he cuts off the ring pretty well. But I guess we’re probably not going to see another Eubank Jr vs. Saunders fight, because it doesn’t look like Eubank Jr is all that interested in facing Saunders again after he took a beating from him last November.
