Eubank Sr frustrated that people can’t recognize Chris Jr’s talent

eubank4By Scott Gilfoid: Chris Eubank Sr thinks his son WBA interim middleweight champion Chris Eubank Jr (19-1, 14 KOs) is an elite fighter, and he doesn’t understand why boxing fans don’t see what he sees in his son. He feels that they should be able to see that Eubank Jr has got the makings of something special.

One of the problems that has held Eubank Jr back, besides the God awful opposition he’s faced most of his career, is the fact that he was beaten recently Billy Joe Saunders. When you get beaten by a guy like Saunders, it’s hard to take Eubank Sr and his son Eubank Jr seriously when they say they feel they can challenge Gennady Golovkin and possibly even beat him.

“I’m talking about what makes a man elite. It’s innate and you can’t put your finger on it, but I recognize it and Junior [Eubank Jr] has that,” Eubank Sr said to skysports.com. “He’s able to do these things. I’ve been watching it all these years and I’m so frustrated the public haven’t seen what I’ve seen.”

Well, if Eubank Sr. thinks that his son is all that, then he needs to start telling his promoter Eddie Hearn to stop with the fights against fodder opponents like the bottom dwellers Tony Jeter (20-4-1, 14 KOs) and Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan, and start matching Eubank Jr against some guys that can actually fight. I mean, that’s kind of a no-brainer, isn’t it? Eubank Jr has a mismatch scheduled against the 39-year-old Jeter for this Saturday night on Sky Sports 1 from the Sheffield Arena in Sheffield, UK.

On December 12th, Eubank Jr will be fighting O’Sullivan on December 12th at the O2 Arena in London, UK. O’Sullivan was totally schooled by Saunders two years ago in losing a lopsided 12 round unanimous decision in a fight where he lost 11 of the 12 rounds. Jeter was knocked out in just 2 rounds by Patrick Nielsen in 2014.

Nielsen is the same fighter that Dmitry Chudinov easily beat by a 12 round decision last year in June 2014. Eubank Jr in turn easily defeated Chudinov by a 12th round knockout last February. As such, you can see that Eubank Jr is actually going backwards with his career in his next two fights by facing Jeter and O’Sullivan.

I don’t care how much talking Eubank Jr does about those fights being something that will improve him and show that he’s elite. It’s not reality. Eubank Jr is talking on soft opponents and putting his career in reverse mode by facing beatable opposition. I don’t know why he’s facing Jeter and O’Sullivan, but I have a feeling he’s doing it to try and make himself look better than he is. If Eubank Jr really wants to prove something, then he needs to be fighting the guy that beat him in Saunders. That guy beat him and also beat O’Sullivan.

“You guys are going to see in the next two fights and the next two months that I’m the real deal; that I am what I say I am,” Eubank Jr said to skysports.com. “This isn’t a gimmick. It’s the real thing. Triple G is on the top of the weight division that I am currently in. This is why he’s the target. In my opinion, I can beat him. Obviously, I have to earn the right to face him. We’re climbing the ladder, and within the next year or two, I’ll be able to step into the ring and prove what we’ve been talking about in the last two months. I see weakness in his style, and I think I can exploit those weaknesses. That dream fight will hopefully happen in the next two years,” Eubank Jr said.

I really think Eubank Jr’s win over Dmitry Chudinov has gone to his head, because he’s starting to think he’s better than he really is. There’s a huge difference between beating the slow as molasses Chudinov than there is in beating Golovkin. There’s a difference in speed and a huge difference in punching power. The shots that Chudinov landed against Eubank Jr would be knockout blows if Golovkin landed them. Eubank Jr was hit a lot by Chudinov, as well as Saunders. This is with Eubank Jr mostly focusing on his defense in those two fights. He still ended up getting nailed a lot.
