By Scott Gilfoid: In one of the more unusual press conferences you’ll ever see, Tyson Fury (24-0, 18 KOs) arrived at in a poor looking Batman costume for his press conference with IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (64-3, 53 KOs) in London, UK. Fury jogged around the media twice before finally going back changing into a suit.

Once seated, Fury tore into Wladimir something fierce, saying that he’s going to send him into retirement by knocking him out in the 6th round in their fight on October 24th. Fury basically took over the entire press conference by jabbering nonstop at a mile a minute.

I was really disappointed in Wladimir, because he just sat there letting Fury trash talk him without saying much of anything. If Deontay Wilder would have been there, he would have fired back with both barrels in giving Fury a piece of his mind. I didn’t like it at all how Wladimir just sat, saying very little and looking kind of squeamish in reaction to the vicious things Fury was saying to him.

“A nice easy sharp knockout,” Fury said at today’s press conference in London. “There’s no doubt in my mind that I can beat Wladimir Klitschko. I wouldn’t be the fighting man that I am if I couldn’t beat him. He’s had all those defenses, won all those fights, beat all those Americans, all those Europeans, but he ain’t beating me. You never fought a Gypsy king before, have you? You ain’t nothing. You’re an old man. You’re getting knocked out. I can’t wait for this. I wish it was the weekend. You’re getting it, I’m telling you. I wish it was the weekend, because you’d be getting knocked out. And if he [trainer Johnathon Banks] wants to fight, he can come out of retirement and I’ll fight him. Who beat a Ukrainian last time? Hughie, stand up. No. 2 [Hughie Fury] is coming up. This clown is getting knocked out. He’s getting knocked out, and you’re [Banks] getting egg on your face. I don’t know what you are. An army sergeant or a school teacher or whatever, but you’re not a fighter. You’re not a fighting man. Superhero powers in boring people to death. Who wants to ask questions? This is the Tyson Fury show. Forget about him [Wladimir], he’s a nobody. Do you want to go to sleep in six, Wladimir? I’ll put him to bed in six rounds if he wants it. Is there anyone here that doesn’t think I’m putting Wladimir into retirement, and if you are, stand up and be counted and say it? There it is. Not one person. Welcome to my city. Welcome to my town – UK, baby!” Fury said.

Instead of firing back at Fury the way that a talent like Deontay Wilder would, Wladimir seemed in awe of Fury, saying that this was “the most exciting press conference” of his career. “I have a lot of friends from the circus industry. It’s very tough to make people laugh. If I call you a clown it’s a compliment,” Wladimir said.

furyThe problem with Wladimir is he’s just too nice and too civilized. He just took all that criticism from Fury during the entire press conference. Even when Wladimir had his turn to speak, Fury started flapping his gums again, calling Wladimir boring and imitating how he speaks. I think Wladimir needed to put a muzzle on Fury to shut his yap up while he was trying to get in a few works.

It’s not as if Wladimir had much of a chance to talk due to Fury taking the microphone and blabbering nonstop for practically the entire press conference, and not even giving him a chance to speak his mind. Fury was ranting and raving and looking out of control. They needed a good straight jacket for him. Heck, even Fury’s father John Fury was flapping his gums. I couldn’t understand anything he was saying with his gravelly voice and thick accent, but he was yapping just the same.

Well, Wladimir is going to get a chance to shut Fury’s big gob on October 24th, and after that I do suspect that Fury will get real quiet after that. I just hope he doesn’t disappear and wind up living in a cave on top of a high mountain. I’d be bad to see Fury disappear after losing this fight.

It was a pro-Fury crowd of media at the press conference, which is why none of the media members spoke up for Wladimir when Fury polled the crowd asking them if there was anyone there who thought he wouldn’t knock Wladimir out. If this press conference took place in Germany or the United States, I suspect more than a few of the media would have spoken up and said that they felt that Wladimir would be the one winning their fight on October 24th.
