Quillin, 32, now will be fighting next for a world title against WBA “regular” middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs in December.

According to the Premier Boxing Champions analysts, Quillin rehydrated all the way to 182 pounds after weighing in at 160 pounds on Friday. That’s a 22 pound gain of water weight. Quillin needs to seriously think about moving up to super middleweight. It was hardly fair for Zerafa to be fighting someone as big as Quillin.

In the 5th round, Zerafa foolishly tried to exchange with the faster and stronger Quillin and it resulted in Zerafa getting badly hurt by a big right hand from Quillin. Zerafa then staggered to the ropes where Quillin dropped him with a tremendous right hand to the head. The referee immediately stopped the fight at that point. Zerafa was badly hurt and in no condition to continue fighting.

“What’s important is that I’m ready for Danny Jacobs,” Quillin said after the fight. “Now it’s time for Brooklyn to see me and Danny Jacobs. We’ve waited for a long time for it.”

If Quillin continues to blow up in weight after making the limit, I think it could backfire on him if Jacobs is able to drag Quillin to the later rounds where the weight gain will trouble him.

In a surprisingly one-sided fight, #1 IBF contender Jermall Charlo (22-0, 17 KOs) destroyed 42-year-old IBF junior middleweight champion Cornelius Bundrage (34-6, 19 KOs) by a third round knockout. Charlo, who arguably the better and the much more powerful puncher of the Charlo twins, dropped Bundrage in the 1st, 2nd and two times in the 3rd round. The fight was officially stopped at 2:33 of the 3rd round.

The first knockdown in the 3rd round came from a huge left hook to the head that sent Bundrage staggering to the canvas. In the 2nd knockdown of the round, Charlo nailed Bundrage with a big right hand to the head that sent him down for the knockout.

“You never put a dog in a pen with a lion,” Charlo said. “I said I was going to do what I was going to do. This is the future. I am the future of boxing. I studied and I stayed ready. K-9 got cut and I stayed ready. When I turned pro seven years ago, I didn’t know this would be possible.”

Charlo definitely is the future of boxing at 154. He’s very good in this weight class. I wouldn’t want him to move up in weight just yet to middleweight because I don’t think he would do well against a guy like IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin. But I think Charlo is perfect for this weight class.

Unbeaten #12 WBA light heavyweight contender Marcus Browne (16-0, 12 KOs) destroyed former WBA light heavyweight champion Gabriel Campillo (25-8-1, 12 KOs) by a 1st round knockout in dropping the 37-year-old Campillo twice before the fight was halted.
