Fury’s promoter expects Klitschko fight in Nov or Dec

furyBy Scott Gilfoid: Mick Hennessy, the promoter for unbeaten British heavyweight Tyson Fury (24-0, 18 KOs), expects Fury’s fight against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (64-3, 53 KOs) to be rescheduled for November 28th at the ESPRIT Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany.

Wladimir suffered an injury to his left calf in training last week, not long after his press conference with Fury in London, UK. Wladimir reportedly suffered an injury to the tendon in his calf.

Hennessy seems to be very hopeful that Wladimir will be able to come back from the injury quickly and resume training in time for the fight to take place in November or December. Whether that happens or not remains to be seen.

“It will be at the same arena, and we are hoping to have it happen late November or early December,” Hennessy told ESPN.com. “Wladimir is being seen by the specialist who treats the German national football team and they are going to work on it over the next few days.”

It sounds like a combination of guesswork and wishful thinking on Hennessey’s part in hoping the fight can take place in November or December. Hennessy might a well thrown some more dates in their just so that there was no way he could be wrong. I mean, if he included October, January and February as well, he’d come out looking like a genius when Wladimir is able to fight in one of those months. But seriously, Hennessey can’t know. It’s like guessing the lottery numbers for Friday night.

You can throw some crazy numbers out there, but you’re probably not going to be even close to winning.

“We have got to match up what dates are good for the TV stations, but the stadium is OK,’ stated Hennessy. “It’s not a long delay and he’s OK with that.”

Like I said, Hennessey can’t know long it’s going to take for Wladimir’s calf to heal. We are talking about a fighter who is almost 40 years old, and he’s not going to heal like someone in their teens or 20s.

This injury could really longer on and on, and poor Fury will be sitting around waiting all that time wishing he’d chose WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder to try and fight instead of the aging Klitschko.

Hennessey says it’s not going to be a long delay but that doesn’t make me feel any more secure that the Klitschko-Fury fight will be taking place in November or December. In fact, it makes me think it will take place in February.

Fury and Hennessey should be happy that the fight with Wladimir is being postponed. It works out better for Fury the longer that Wladimir is out, because Fury will have more time to train and take off all that flab around his midsection.

In the recent photos of Fury, he looks like he’s carrying around some jelly rolls around his waist that he needs to take off through exercise and dieting. With the extra time for training, Fury might be able to burn off that blubber and come into the fight in decent shape. Maybe with the extra time to train, Fury might be able to trim off some of that lard that he’s carrying around.

For the Klitschko-Fury fight to take place, it will not only require that Wladimir’s injured left calf to heal, but also for Sky Box Office to find a date for them to fight. Sky reportedly doesn’t have a date in November. Fury is saying that the fight might not take place until February, and I believe what he’s saying. If Fury thinks the fight will take place in February then that’s good enough for me. At least Fury isn’t sounding hopeful when he gives the February date.
