Most Mayweather critics are just plain hypocrites

Floyd MayweatherBy Chester Rivers: Why is there so much negative criticism towards Floyd Mayweather Jr. and his career accomplishments? Many cannot wait to pick apart any statement or action involving the 5 division champion. Most of his critics have a double standard when it comes to Mayweather thus making them appear to be jealous hypocrites and incompetent on the history of the sport of boxing. Let take a look at some of the latest criticism and acts of hypocrisy by some of Mayweather’s most vocal critics.

Let’s start with the face of the female sports world, Ronda Rousey. As of late, Rousey has got in the habit of mentioning or referencing Mayweather’s name during some of her interviews. During an interview following her ESPY win as Fighter of the Year she took a jab at Mayweather by referencing his history of domestic violence asking, “How does it feel to beat by a women for once”? Rousey later mentioned that the difference between her fights and his is the fact that she delivers excitement in the her matches no matter the length. Rousey’s latest claim is she can defeat Mayweather in a no rules fight. What makes Rousey a hypocrite? As a female athlete, why is she giving publicity to someone with such a negative history towards women? Why is Rousey willing to fight a 147 pound man and continues to arguably DUCK a 145 pound woman. Those who follow MMA are excited about a potential match-up between Rousey and Cris “Cyborg” Santos. Rousey vs. Cyborg is being billed as the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao of mixed martial arts except one, Ronda Rousey, has made excuse after excuse and demand after demand to avoid this fight. Until Rousey shut up and face her Manny Pacquiao, Cyborg Santos, Rousey appear to be nothing more than a very vocal hypocrite.

Do you think Mayweather’s choice of Andre Berto is a disgrace and should tarnish his legacy as one of the best ever? If you take a look at some of boxing’s biggest legends you’ll notice that most fought cupcakes following their career defining wins. Mayweather’s career defining win came this past May when he defeated Manny Pacquiao. Do you know who Muhammad Ali faced next following his triumph of George Foreman? He faced a man name Chuck Wepner. Although this fight was the inspiration to the Rocky movie series, Wepner was badly beaten and outclassed. Have you ever heard of a welterweight named Bruce Finch? That was the fighter who was “cherry picked” by Sugar Ray Leonard after he defeated Thomas Hearns. Leonard also faced a fighter named Larry Bonds immediately following his victory in the rematch with Roberto Duran. Andre Berto is a two-time world champion and a legit contender.

Gennady Golovkin also appears to be very hypocritical when it comes to Mayweather. The 160 pound champion has called out the smaller Mayweather on occasion. He also has called out 154 pound superstar Canelo Alvarez. There’s nothing wrong with calling out these guys, but there’s a guy calling out Golovkin that Golovkin want no part of. Andre Ward has called out Golovkin publicly and has even stated he is willing to a catch weight. Golovkin and his team excuse is there’s no benefit in fighting Ward because he’s not known enough. One question that have me scratching my head. Who in the Hell has Golovkin fought that is more popular than Ward?

There’s a saying, “People in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones”, many trying to belittle Mayweather should think before they speak because they might sound like a hypocrite.
