Hearn sees Khan as having no choice but Brook for next fight

Hearn doesn’t see there being much of a chance that the 28-year-old Khan will be getting the September 12th fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr., because it’s widely believed that 31-year-old former IBF/WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto will be getting the fight on that date.

Hearn understands that the eager Khan wants to get a big money fight for his next bout at the end of the year, but he feels that his options are extremely limited in that area if he wants to get the big money. There’s some tough fights for Khan in terms of guys like Keith Thurman, Shawn Porter, Errol Spence Jr. and Marcos Maidana, but the only fight that will make Khan money is the Brook fight if Khan gets passed over again by Mayweather.

“I’ve said that I would like to grab an hour with him this week to talk about the fight,” Hearn said to Skysports.com.” It looks like September 12th is not happening for Amir Khan against Floyd Mayweather, so therefore he won’t be able to fight (him) until May (2016) at the earliest.”

With Khan getting over $1 million to face guys like Chris Algieri, I have a feeling that he’s content with making that kind of money in those kinds of fights. If all Khan does is fight three Algieri level opponents per year, he’s still walking away with close to $5 million per year without having to take any risks at all. I mean, the Algieri fight was supposed to be a no risk fight for Khan, but after Algieri bulked up to 160, and used his intelligent brain to change his boxing style completely to become an aggressive fighter, Khan would up with his hardest fight since he was blasted out by Danny Garcia in 2012. But I doubt that we’re going to be seeing Algieri getting another shot at Khan in this lifetime.

When Khan has problems against an opponent, he pretty much never fights them again. That’s how it’s worked with Khan. He never fought his past conquerors Lamont Peterson, Danny Garcia or Breidis Prescott again. Heck, Khan didn’t even fight Maidana again after taking a vicious beating against him in 2010.

“He must be looking at a big fight, November time? Who else other than Kell Brook can give him what he needs and give him the numbers that he needs?” Hearn said.

Khan is looking to fight in November, but I sure don’t see him entertaining a fight against Brook. Khan already said that he’s keeping the Brook fight for later in his career because he feels it will always be there for him. The Mayweather fight obviously won’t always be there for Khan, and that’s why he’s pushing so hard to try and get this big payday before it goes away permanently with Mayweather retiring after next year.
