brook54566By Jose Espinoza: IBF 147 pound champion Kell Brook is considered to be one of the most dangerous fighters in the welterweight division. Last Saturday night, Brook has just come off an impressive 6th round technical knockout win against fellow Briton Frankie Gavin at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

Now he is set to take on either Amir Khan or Brandon Rios on August 29 in a bout that could potentially boost his status as one of the premier fighters of this generation.

Brook who is now 29 years old, stands behind his impressive record of 35 wins with 24 knockouts and no losses. His road to the professional boxing circuit has been paved with great opportunities and lots of ambition. In 2010, 15rounds.com asked Brook about how he got stated in boxing.
His response:

“I used to watch a lot of Bruce Lee movies, Enter the Dragon stuff like that Van Damme (Films). So I practiced and when I was 9 my dad brought me to the Wincobank gym to burn a bit of that energy off.”

Brook started his professional career in 2004 by slowly segmenting his name as a talented up-and-coming fighter in the United Kingdom. In 2009, he beat out Nathan Cleverly to win the prestigious young fighter of the year award voted for by the Boxing Writer’s club. After garnering an outstanding reputation as an elite fighter in the U.K. in 2011, Brook split from his promoter Frank Warren and joined the Matchroom Sport boxing stable under Eddie Hearn.

Now, Brook is looking for a high profile fight that will make his relevant across the pond in America. He has even been putting his name out there as a possible opponent for Floyd Mayweather Jr. in September. Sport’s illustrated columnist, Chris Mannix, tweeted after the Khan decision: “I don’t know where Mayweather turns for a September fight. But there is going to be zero demand for Khan after that. Kell Brook?”

Carl Froch told SkySports.com that he thinks eventually Brook and Khan will meet in the ring with Brook getting the decision. When asked to speak about Brook, Froch wasted no praise by saying: “He’s got very fast hands and that works for him and when he couples speed with the skill he’s got and the timing, then comes the power.”

As for what the fighter from Sheffield in Yorkshire wants for his career in the future; Brook made it clear in his post-fight conference last Saturday. “I want big fights and I want people to take me seriously… I am world champion. I want to prove that I’m No.1 in this division. I’m after big names in the summer. I’m fit and well and it’s a short window you have as a fighter so I want to bring some big dough in.”
