Deontay Wilder: Five days until I beat this boy [Molina] like a drum!

By Scott Gilfoid: WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (33-0, 32 KOs) is counting the days before his fight this Saturday night against Eric Molina (23-2, 17 KOs) on Showtime Championship Boxing from the Bartow Arena, in Birmingham, Alabama, USA.

Wilder has five says before his fight against the 33-year-old Molina, and he plans on giving the Texas native a beating in the process of defending his title. Wilder wants to get Molina out of there quickly as fast as he can because he needs to keep in line for an eventual unification fight against the winner of the Tyson Fury vs. Wladimir Klitschko fight.

There’s no telling if Fury will face Wilder if he’s victorious against the aging 39-year-old Ukrainian, but Wladimir has made it very clear that he wants to fight Wilder in the near future if he gets past Fury. Wilder is hoping that he can get a shot at either of the tall heavyweights because he sees them both as flawed and very beatable.

“IT’S FIGHT WEEK! 5 days to go ’til I beat this boy like a drum,” Wilder said on his Twitter.

As for Fury and Wladimir, Wilder said to the Dailymail.co.uk, “I would be happy to fight either of them.”

Wilder wants to scoop up all of the heavyweight world titles and bring them back to America, where he believes they rightfully belong. He wants to have all the straps draped on his shoulders after he beats the winner of the Fury-Klitschko fight in the near future. But like I said, Wladimir has said he wants Wilder, but with Fury it remains very murky with him.

In my view, I see Fury staying far away from Deontay and focusing on defending his heavyweight titles against the less dangerous heavyweights that don’t have the punching power and size that Deontay possesses. It makes sense for Fury to stay away from Wilder because we’ve seen Fury get dropped by lesser punchers/fighters in the past, and if he gets put in with Deontay, he could get blasted out in short order.

“I’ve been working on Tyson for about three years and we had reached the point of negotiations,” Wilder said. “But the chance of a fight with Klitschko changed their plans. Also, Klitschko and his team did not want one of their prospective opponents to be taken out of the mix by me beating Tyson.”

Wilder is in a good position to get a huge money fight in the near future no matter who emerges as the winner of the Klitschko-Fury fight. I mean, sooner or later Fury will face Wilder in a unification fight if he doesn’t get whipped in his first title defense of his straps. As for Wladimir he has to face Wilder sooner rather than later because he’s starting to age so badly. If Wladimir puts it off much longer, he’s going to get taken out by someone and will never have the chance of fighting Wilder in a unification bout.
