joshua56777By Demetrius Luke: British heavyweight prospect Anthony Joshua (13-0, 13 KOs) has been updated and newly ranked in number two position with the WBC in the heavyweight ratings, this came after Joshua stopped American Kevin Johnson inside two rounds just under two weeks ago. Joshua has been a pro just under two years now but has already taken a top 15 ranking spot in all the body organizations.

This will come surprising to majority of people in the boxing world considering Joshua has only just finished his apprenticeship in boxing and will look to set to climb the rankings now but with him being as high as number two, he can fight whoever he can choose to now.

The current WBC heavyweight champion is American Deontay Wilder, he has an upcoming mandatory defence against Eric Molina coming up this month. Wilder’s next mandatory after this won’t be due until early 2016 as he will likely be granted a voluntary defence in the fall.

Anthony Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has said he plans on letting Joshua off the leash now and into the deeper mix of the division with names such as Tony Thompson, Manuel Charr, Odlanier Solis and Chris Arreola all being touted as potential opponents for the British heavyweight this year. Hearn would like to match Joshua in with some of the bigger domestic names such as Tyson Fury, Derick Chisora, David Price and Dillian Whyte first with one of them guys likely to be in place for a September fight against Joshua.

Of course with Joshua being ranked this high, it does not necessarily mean he will take the final eliminator when it is called if him, his team and promoter do not feel it is the right time to, but Joshua has stated several times in the past he will fight anyone but only when his team tell him it is the time to do so. Joshua has recently stated a desire to fight Deontay Wilder and David Haye in the near future so they could come sooner than expected.

Joshua has looked very impressive since turning professional, stopping all his opponents inside the distance, he has size, power, speed, excellent conditioning and his use of cutting off the ring with footwork is improving with every fight, of course with the level of opposition he has been matched with that would have been expected so it will be interesting to see how he fairs against the bigger names now.
