Oscar de la Hoya twitted “Call me old school but I like the fans getting their money’s worth by watching an action packed fight.” And at a press conference Bernard Hopkins already made sure the boxers were fit to fight without any hidden injuries.

Yesterday was the anniversary of an epic battle in which Jose Luis Castillo and Chico Corrales delighted fight fans with a performance that will last forever in the memory of fight fans around the world. I told a friend of mine that no matter what the boxing purist said no one can deny it was the essence of prize fighting. No running, No hugging just slugging.

The Boxing Gods must hear us fight fans and allow us all to witness another epic battle in the anniversary of such magnificent fight.

I am placing my bet on Canelo to win by KO7, the young lion has much to lose and also a lot to win if defeats a fighter who simply cannot afford to lose. Kirkland might be tailor made for Alvarez and the ring rust brings questions about if it will affect his performance, but no one can doubt James will not quit and will do his best to knock Canelo out.

Maybe it is true and Kirkland do leaves big holes to be countered and Canelo´s big right hook might land with ease, perhaps James has enough power to hurt Alvarez in any round; but for sure they won’t try to outbox each other to just try to win on the score cards.

Oh Ares hear me out because we the fight fans cannot handle another disappointing major event this year. Please no more Cab Driver Assassins on the major events sold as the next lion king.

No, boxing is not dead and never will as long as true fighters climb into the ring with the heart of a lion and killer instinct to destroy his prey.

Canelo and Kirkland might end up fighting not just to win but to heal disappointment of fight fans around the world.

I am convinced that the Canelo vs Kirkland is not just the second major brawl of the year. But, what about the reader, do you agree?
