IMG_4980(Photo credit: HBO) By Dan Ambrose: IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (63-3, 53 KOs) says he’s got a number of game plans he can fall back on if the original plan doesn’t work for his April 25th title defense against unbeaten American Bryant Jennings (19-0, 10 KOs) in their fight at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Wladimir, 39, says he’ll be ready to shift games from plan A all the way to plan-E if he has to in order for him to get past the 6’3” Jennings in their important fight on HBO World Championship Boxing.

Wladimir is hoping he can score a knockout against Jennings. That’s his number one hope for the fight. Wladimir wants to impress the boxing fans and get Jennings out of there with the least amount of effort. The last time that Wladimir fought in the United States, he won unimpressive 12 round unanimous decision win over Sultan Ibragimov in their fight in 2008.

Klitschko’s late trainer Emanuel Steward kept encouraging Wladimir to let his hands go in order to get a crowd-pleasing victory, but Wladimir looked afraid to take any chances in the fight. He still looked haunted from his 5th round knockout loss to Lamon Brewster in 2004, and didn’t want to take any risks to get Ibragimov out of there.

If Wladimir doesn’t fight aggressively against Jennings then this fight could turn out to be a more difficult fight than Wladimir expected it to be. Jennings is going to be looking to take the fight to Wladimir because this is his big chance to make a mark in boxing.

Jennings has nothing to lose in the fight because very few boxing fans are giving him any chance of winning the fight. This means that Jennings can go all out and put everything on the table.

“I have multiple game plans, if A doesn’t work we move to B, C, D, or E. Always have to be prepared to change up,” Wladimir said. “The best way to win is by knockout and that’s my plan. Age is an advantage for me, I feel great; I’m getting better with age. My focus right now is only on Bryant Jennings, I give credit to him and what he has accomplished and I’m only thinking about beating him on April 25.”

Wladimir wants to defeat Jennings so that he can get to bigger fights against his WBO mandatory challenger Tyson Fury and WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder. Both Fury and Deontay are undefeated fighters with good size. The Wladimir-Fury fight will be an interesting fight with a lot of boxing fans due to Fury having an unbeaten record, good size and a lot of fans in the UK.

“Later there will be time to consider Tyson Fury or Deontay Wilder fights but now is not the time to talk about that,” Wladimir said.

There’s no question that Wladimir needs to take the Jennings fight very seriously. He can’t Jennings lightly because he’s got good skills, and he’s got enough pop in his punches to get Wladimir out of there if he can connect with enough of his power shots.
