Froch: I don’t know if Pacquiao truly believes he can beat Mayweather

1-_DSC4146By Scott Gilfoid: Britain’s Carl Froch has his doubts whether Manny Pacquiao believes that he’s got the goods to defeat Floyd Mayweather Jr. this Saturday night in their long awaited fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Froch, the WBA super middleweight champion, believes that Mayweather will come out on top in this fight.

I’m not sure how much Froch knows about Pacquiao and Mayweather for him to be giving expert opinions. He comments on Mayweather appear to be along the same lines of what the general consensus is about him being the favorite and the guy to back with the smart money.

Froch thinks that if Mayweather gets knocked down early in the fight it could have a negative effect on him in the fight. But Froch thinks Mayweather has got a good enough chin likely to stay on his feet in the fight. Mayweather hasn’t been dropped in the past, but he has been hurt. Shane Mosley and Marcos Maidana both had Mayweather buzzed in fights but he was able to clear his head in both occasions and make it through the rough period.

“If Mayweather gets puts down for the first time in his career it’ll affect him massively in a negative way,” Froch said via Skysports.com. “Pacquiao may be confident and I am sure he is, but I don’t know if he truly believes he is the man to do it – a man who has lost five times and was badly knocked out by Juan Manuel Marquez.”

Whether Pacquiao is confident or not, I’m sure he’ll perform as he always has in his fights and not let anything get in the way of him doing what he’s done in the past. Confidence will not be an issue in this fight for either man. Both Mayweather and Pacquiao aren’t lacking in confidence and self-belief.

The winner of the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight will be determined on talent, the best game plan, and to a certain extent youth. Whoever is the younger fighter in the ring will have a huge edge on Saturday night. Mayweather is a little older than Pacquiao so this could weigh in with the final results of the fight. But Pacquiao also has a lot of ring wear from his many wars, and that could also be a factor in the fight.

“That’s why Mayweather has that psychological edge. He has massive marketability because of that unbeaten record. There’s a lot of emotional money on Pacquiao because a lot of people want him to win, but my money’s on Mayweather on points.”

Who the heck knows who will win the fight? I don’t think Froch has clue one who will win the fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao. He’s just guessing like the rest of them. Instead of flapping his gums about Mayweather and Pacquiao, Froch needs to make a decision whether he wants to continue his stalled boxing career? I mean, he’s been out of the ring for now close to a year and he still doesn’t have a fight scheduled. At best, we’re probably looking at Froch having been out of the ring for a year and a half before he finally fights. At this point I wouldn’t give him much of a chance to win his next fight unless he targets someone along the same talent lines as Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
