Mayweather already knocking out sparring partners

floyd10By Chris Williams: In a strong sign that WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr means business for his fight against Manny Pacquiao on 5/2, Mayweather is reportedly already knocking out his sparring partners as he gets ready for his fight against Pacquiao at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, according to Fighthype.

Mayweather is obviously sitting down on his punches more to get him ready for what could turn out to be a slug-fest with the 36-year-old Pacquiao.

Freddie Roach, the trainer for Pacquiao, has been saying in public that he hopes that Mayweather trades with Pacquiao when he gets inside the ring. Roach thinks that Pacquiao has a good chance of defeating Mayweather if he gets into a war with him.

“Training camp has went tremendous,” Mayweather said via Fighthype.com.

Mayweather has only been at it for one week now, and he’s already knocking out his sparring partners. This suggests that we’re going to see a more powerful Mayweather when he gets inside the ring with Pacquiao.

We saw how Mayweather was able to make adjustments for his second fight against Marcos Maidana by focusing more on boxing and moving. It worked perfectly for Mayweather, as Maidana wasn’t able to even lay a glove on him in that fight.

Now with Mayweather training to get more power on his shots, we can expect a much different Mayweather when he gets in with Pacquiao on May 2nd. If Mayweather comes out throwing hard leather, he could catch Pacquiao and his trainer Freddie Roach by surprise, because they seem to be under the impression that Mayweather isn’t going to be slugging when he gets in the ring on May 2nd.

By Mayweather coming out throwing hard bombs in this fight, he’s going to show that he’s capable of adapting to any fighter he faces by changing his game.

Pacquiao likes when his opponents slug with him, because he’s been brought up with a slugging style of fighting. Normally a fighter like Mayweather would want to be wary of getting in the trenches with Pacquiao, because it could result in Mayweather getting bloodied and possibly hurt. However, Mayweather just finished fighting a guy that is heaver and stronger than Pacquiao in his last two fights against Marcos Maidana.

Mayweather showed that he could stand up to Maidana’s big shots and beat him at his own game. If Mayweather can get the better of a strong puncher like Maidana, then he can definitely stand up to a much smaller Pacquiao.

Maidana weighed 165 pounds for his first fight against Mayweather in May of 2014, and yet Mayweather was able to take Maidana’s hard shots and come back with his own punches to win the fight.

If Mayweather is able to beat Pacquiao at his own game by slugging with him then it’s going to be a long night for the 36-year-old Pacquiao, because he absolutely needs to beat Mayweather in the trenches. Pacquiao can’t out-box Mayweather because he doesn’t have the size or the boxing ability to beat him in that type of a fight.
