pac07676767By Chester Rivers: My O’ My! What a difference a signed contract makes. Isn’t it ironic that since this fight was announced it’s the Floyd Mayweather Jr fans that’s showing extreme confidence and the Manny Pacquiao fans who are wallowing in doubt.

It appears that same doubt has made it’s way to the training camp of Manny Pacquiao. His team has publicly express problems finding sparring partners and they has placed blamed on Team Mayweather including his adviser Al Haymon. How did we get to this point so quickly?

Has Team Pacquiao realized the magnitude of this moment and the pressure is causing them to crack? This fight has been promoted on the myths and lies that Manny Pacquiao is a formidable opponent and now they realize that his skills and flaws will make it an easy fight.

What are the lies and myths that I speak of? For starters, let’s examine the power of Pacquiao. Many people are asking what happen to Manny’s power? Manny’s power isn’t missing. It was never there at the upper weight limits. Manny being known as a knockout artist is just a myth to generate interest in this fight. If you compare the records of Mayweather and Pacquiao you will notice at welterweight both men only have 2 stoppages (Pacquiao- Cotto, De La Hoya) (Mayweather- Hatton, Ortiz). At 140 both fighters have only 1 knockout (Pacquiao- Hatton) (Mayweather- Gatti). The notion that Pacquiao has some type of super human knockout power was started after his sensational knockout of Ricky Hatton. This was around the same time the promotion of a fight between these two first started. Pacquiao’s career knockout percentage is 59% and Mayweather’s is 55%.

Another myth about Manny Pacquiao is that his hands are so fast you don’t have time to see all of them and what angle they are coming from. Manny does have fast hands but he is a rhythm puncher which mean he often throws 3 or 4 punch flurries. This makes it easier to time him if you have a decent jab or counter punch. Mayweather has both. If you can disrupted Pacquiao’s rhythm like Marquez or Morales 1 you can put Manny at a great disadvantage.

Lastly, Manny’s feet are so fast he’s in and out before you have time to react. Manny is only effective coming forward. He never throws punches backing up. If he’s in front of you he throwing punches in rhythm and when he moves he’s not throwing.

The determining factors to me are the facts that when Mayweather’s feel he has something to prove he’s extremely impressive like the Corrales and Gatti fights. Mayweather is also very impressive when he is the larger man like his fights against Hatton and Marquez.

Manny Pacquiao and his fans should have followed to idiom BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR BECAUSE YOU MIGHT JUST GET IT.
