By Nathan Prichard: Tommy Coyle (21-2, 10 KOs) set up a clash with Luke Campbell after Martin Gethin (25-7-1, 11 KOs) was forced to retire in the 5th round of there lightweight contest in their fight on Saturday night at the Ice Arena, Hull, Yorkshire, United Kingdom.

Gethin’s retirement will have come as a huge relief to Tommy Coyle and no doubt promoter Eddie Hearn as the much built up all hull clash looked to be over in the second round when Coyle was heavily floored by a Gethin left hook.

It was Coyle who started off the busier of the two fighters with Gethin looking wary and offering little in the first round. Then in the second round as Coyle looked to unload he left himself horribly exposed and Gethin took full advantage dropping Coyle as he caught him flush on the chin.

Coyle looked out as he slumped on to the canvas but managed to beat the count and survive heavy pressure for the remainder of the round before seemingly manage to clear his head going into the third.

Coyle always looked vulnerable but his chances were boosted when going into the fourth and fifth rounds Gethin’s work rate had started to drop, but despite that I came as quite a surprise when Gethin retired in the 5th round due to a burst ear drum.

Luke Campbell (10-0, 8 KOs) had a much easier nights work with a third round knockout win over Nicaraguan Levis Morales (11-2-1, 4 KOs). Campbell dominated his over matched opponent from the outset with his long jab and lightning hand speed and it wasn’t long before morales was on the floor when Campbell landed a straight left hand with the second round coming to a close. The fight rightly came to end shortly after when in the third round Campbell landed a right left combination leaving morales in a heap on the floor and although he tried in vein to beat the count Howard foster signaled the end of the fight.

Sam Eggington (14-2, 8 KOs) continued his impressive rise as he claimed the WBC international silver title with an impressive 5th round stoppage win over the previously unbeaten Shayne singleton (20-1, 6 KOs). Eggington dominated from the outset as he simply walked through singletons punches and it wasn’t long before his aggressive style proved too much for singleton when in the third round Eggington landed a flurry of punches culminating in a right hand with sent singleton down. Singleton responded calmly but as the fight wore on the heavy shots began to take there toll. In the 5th round Eggington sensed singleton was there for the taking and when he was down for the second time in the round as he walked onto a Straight right hand Referee victor Laughlin rightly waved the fight off.
