Tyson Fury looking past Christian Hammer

fury11By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten heavyweight contender Tyson Fury will be fighting late next month against fringe contender Christian Hammer on February 28th at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

While this is supposed to be a fairly cut and dried mismatch for Fury it’s still possible that he could lose the fight if Hammer can get to his fragile chin with one of his shots. Hammer may not be the biggest puncher in the heavyweight division, but he’s got better power than Steve Cunningham, a fighter who had Fury hurt and on his backside when the two faced each other in 2013.

Instead of Fury concentrating all of his energy on Hammer, he’s looking past him towards IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko. Heck, Fury’s even looking past Klitschko towards unification fights against the other heavyweight champions.

“Once I have dealt with Wladimir Klitschko, I will be unifying the division. I want to fight all the best fighters out there,” Fury said to BoxNation.com. “Hammer will be a spanner by the time I have finished with him. The Christian Hammers of the world are no problem to me. I can feel a knockout.”

Fury isn’t much of a puncher and the only way I can see him scoring a knockout is if Hammer gets dispirited the way that Fury’s last opponent Dereck Chisora did when they went at it recently.

Somehow I don’t see Hammer crawling into his shell and not throwing punches the way that Chisora was. I mean, Hammer may be a limited heavyweight, but he’s not going to stop fighting and just stare at Fury and take punches the way Chisora did. That was just awful to look at. What a poor display of fighting.

“There is pressure on me, but if I am the number one heavyweight in the world like I believe, then men like Hammer should be no problem for me,” Fury said.
If Fury gets beaten by Hammer, then he can forget about his title shot against Wladimir. I’m sure this isn’t lost on Wladimir. He was probably shaking his head when he heard that Fury was going to take a tune-up against Hammer.

Wladimir obviously has sized Hammer up and estimated how much talent he has, but he’s got to know that Fury’s chin is something that go at any time if he’s hit just right even be a guy with moderate power like Hammer. The thing is if Fury loses to Hammer then his guaranteed title shot against Wladimir will go down the drain along with it.
