alvarado332By Gerardo Granados: This Saturday night at Bloomfield, Colorado, USA. Mike Alvarado W34(23)-L3-D0 will fight against Brandon Rios W32(23)-L2-D1 for the third time in three years and the tear and wear already has taken its toll on both fighters who have a fan friendly fighting style that pleases the crowd. This fight is a make or break for both lions so this might be the most important fight ever for them so far in their boxing careers and the pride and hunger to win could determine the outcome of the bout.

The weigh inn will be crucial for Brandon who in the past has had issues related to make the contracted weight, as for Mike he has been a little distracted outside the ring and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he failed to make weight.

Some boxing purist won’t admit that this type of fights represents the essence of prizefighting and just a few of them will say that they don’t enjoy a fan friendly fight. Lucky for us fight fans we can appreciate the beauty and excitement of the brutality and violence of a true fight between two brave and mean sons of boxing. In a boxing era in which many organization champions are been spoon fed with tailor made opponents and others avoid at all cost dangerous contenders, a fight like the Rios vs Alvarado III brings the opportunity to enjoy a competitive fight that can please us all.

Rios better bob and weave or at least try to block or slip Alvarado´s punches and better be ready to set a high tempo on the fight, cutting off the ring effectively going to the body early on the fight so he can force Alvarado to trade in the middle or late rounds to have a good chance to stop him or even make him quit just as Ruslan Provodnikov did.

On the other corner Alvarado could use his reach advantage and fight on the distance, boxing Rios moving in circles, countering Rios with three punch combos, waiting for openings on Rios who tend to be quite predictable while moving straight forward using very often the same punch combinations.

I guess this one won’t be a chess match and I am grateful because this bout can be the first major brawl of the year. The betting odds favor Rios but I am placing my bet on Mile High Mike to win by late stoppage, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Rios wins by stoppage too.

I think this fight could be the farewell for Brandon Rios. But what about the reader, do you think Alvarado will force Rios into retirement or will Brandon make Mike quit?
