Joshua thinks he can beat Fury and Chisora

joshua999By Scott Gilfoid: After beating a handful of weak opponents since he turned pro last year, heavyweight prospect Anthony Joshua (10-0, 10 KOs) reportedly believes he’d beat Dereck Chisora and Tyson Fury if he could get a fight against either of them.

Joshua’s wins over the likes of Michael Sprott, Denis Bakhtov, Konstantin Airich and Matt Skelton has Joshua feeling good about himself.

“I’m confident in my own ability that I could cause an upset and beat those guys,” Joshua said via the Dailymail.co.uk.

I’m not sure that Joshua could beat either of those guys, because we’re talking about some flawed heavyweight. What we do know is that Joshua struggled badly in the 2012 London Olympics in his fights against Erislandy Savon, Zhang Zhilei, Ivan Dychko, and Roberto Cammerelle.

I had Joshua losing all four of his fights in the Olympics. The fact that he still won the Olympic gold medal just proves that it’s possible for fighters to win controversial medals in a sport where the scoring is often subjective.

“If I was to line them all up, David Haye is the one I would like to fight. He’s the best and when you fight the best it brings the best out in you. I need to step up, which is what we’re doing. I think we’re going to take some risky fights and I’m sure I’ll overcome them.”

I kind of doubt that Haye will bother fighting Joshua. I mean, the guy hasn’t fought in two years, and he’s coming off of a serious shoulder injury. I don’t think Haye will bother fighting a prospect like Joshua, because that’s not the type of fight that he’s looking for. Haye wants to capture a world title, and the only way he can do that is by fighting contenders, not prospects.

Joshua will be fighting next month against journeyman Kevin Johnson in a 10 round fight at the O2 Arena in London, UK. Joshua feels like he’s got what it takes to score a knockout over Johnson, who has never been stopped before during his career.

To get ready for his fight against Johnson, Joshua will be in Cuba for 10 days where he hopes to get in some good sparring against some of the heavyweights on that island. It would be interesting for Johnson to get back in the ring with Savon, because that guy did a number on Joshua in the Olympics and ended up getting arguably robbed by the judges.
