pac995By Suleyman Can Sucu We are two days away from the Manny Pacquiao vs. Chris Algieri fight on Saturday night in Macau, China and there isn’t that much hype about this much. Why is that? The main reason is not many people think Chris Algieri has a chance against the legendary Manny Pacquiao.

Everyone is already discussing who Pacquiao will fight next but not the possible outcomes of this fight. I do not agree with this. Algieri is in this fight and I believe he has a shot in winning this fight and proving all his doubters wrong.

Algieri is has all the advantages in his fight. He has longer arm reach, he is just bigger in general. Chris has 4 inches on Pacquiao. He proved he can box very well technically and that he is an intelligent fighter. He’s proved he has heart and that he is hungry. Pacquiao has the speed and agility. Strength is up for debate. People say that Pacquiao is the stronger fighter. Chris didn’t seem very strong against Provodnikov. Let’s not forget that Algieri is taller than the average light welterweight and Welterweight fighter. Algieri is moving up in weight which is allowing him to gain more muscle and to strengthen himself more. Manny is much smaller than Chris and the punches Chris hits Manny will have an huge effect with his increased strength. The outcome of this fight in the end will come to the smarter fighter.

Another factor that will affect this fight is the effort and heart put into the training, the preparation and shows the heart and hunger in the fight. What does the fight mean to both fighters? Pacquiao claims he is hungrier than before and he is life his old self. I believe that Pacquiao has been distracted. He has been focusing on many things at once. He has been focusing on his political duties more in the Philippines but that is not what I think will effect him. Pacquiao has started playing basketball more. He has started coaching and playing for a professional team in the Philippines. Pacquiao doesn’t seem focused for this fight. He is underestimating Algieri like Provodnikov did who ended up getting punished. Algieri is hungry. He wants the win. He’s putting in his all. Algieri is up and coming; Pacquiao is already a Legend. Pacquiao needs this fight to get a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. A loss would basically end all hope for a fight.

This fight has potential to be a very entertaining fight. In the end I think Algieri is going to surprise everyone and have his hands in the air Saturday Night. Chris has a longer range and a huge height advantage. Chris is the smarter fighter and better boxer technically. Pacquiao has more experience, speed, agility and a certain fierceness to his fighting but if Chris keeps his distance and fights smart, he will return home with the WBO light welterweight and WBO welterweight belts around his shoulders. Algieri will give Manny Pacquiao a close fight, and even if he loses he will show the boxing world that he means business which will lead to his stock to rise and more title fights. If I had to give a score for the fight, I would say 114-113 in favour of Algieri. I think Pacquiao will knock down Algieri in the very early rounds of the fight but Algieri will come back from it to win by Unanimous Decision or Split Decision again.
