Deontay: Ready when you are, Stiverne!!

deontay4444By Scott Gilfoid: Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar De La Hoya has agreed with WBC heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverne’s promoter Don King to a financial deal for fight between the Golden Boy promoted Deontay Wilder (32-0, 32 KOs) and Stiverne, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN. What De La Hoya doesn’t have yet is a date and a venue for the fight, and that’s why he opted not to sign the contract. Until those areas are filled in by King, De La Hoya won’t give a green light to the fight.

They’ve already had two postponements for purse bids, and it’s unclear whether they’re going to need to have another. However, if they don’t make a deal soon then it’s likely that WBC president Mauricio Suliaman won’t give permission for a third postponement.

I won’t be surprised if there’s a third try for a postponement. If Suliaman says no to that then it’ll go to a purse bid and we could possibly see an outside party like Roc Nation come in and take the fight.

“Don made an offer. I’m not gonna say the offer but the proper protocol is to give me a site and a date and that’s what I am waiting for,” De La Hoya said to Dan Rafael of ESPN.com. “He didn’t tell me when and where the fight would be. We’re OK with the money. But we want to get the fight done this year. Without a site and date, what would keep Don from just changing things? So without a site and a date in a contract we have no deal whatsoever.”

This is going to be a big disappointment if they’re unable to agree to a fight before the purse bid. If the WBC forces the purse bid by choosing not to give another postponement, then I wouldn’t be surprised if Al Haymon, the adviser for Deontay, pulls him out of the fight and moves him in another direction.

Deontay wants the fight to happen, and he seems like he’s growing impatient. He said this on his twitter on Wednesday: “For the record, I ain’t afraid of nobody. Ready when you are Stiverne!!”
