wladimir688By Allan Fox: The injured IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (62-3, 52 KOs) is close to being ready to restart his training camp for his rescheduled November 15th title defense against #1 IBF Kubrat Pulev (21-0, 11 KOs) at the O2 World Arena, Altona, in Hamburg, Germany.

Wladimir, 38, suffered a tear in his left biceps during training camp for his previously scheduled fight against Pulev on September 6th.

According to Klitschko’s manager Bernd Boente, Wladimir will be ready to start training again in a couple of weeks for the Pulev fight. Depending on what Pulev brings to the table, this could be one of Wladimir’s toughest title defenses in many years since his stoppage win over a prime Tony Thompson in 2008. That was easily the toughest of Wladimir’s defenses in the last 6 years.

Pulev doesn’t have much power to speak of, but he’s got an excellent jab that could give Wladimir problems if he doesn’t open up with his artillery on him in the early rounds.
“Wladimir is on schedule and he is feeling good,” Boente told Dan Rafael of ESPN. “We’re thankful it was not a more serious injury.”

Wladimir had a high number of sparring partners in his camp with him and he was really taking the title defense against Pulev very seriously. There’s no word whether Wladimir will invite the same sparring partners back to camp with him or if he’ll take it easy this time by sparring less so that he can get to the fight in one piece.

In the last, Wladimir suffered an abdominal injury while trying to get ready for a fight against Derek Chisora in 2011, and he ended up pulling out of the fight altogether to fight David Haye. It’s not likely that Wladimir will pull out of the Pulev fight because he would then lose his IBF title. Wladimir wants to hold onto all of the heavyweight titles in his hopes of unifying all of the titles. The only belt that he doesn’t have in his possession is the WBC title belonging to Bermane Stiverne.
