Nobody wants to fight Amir Khan, says Sam Watson

khan6676By Scott Gilfoid: Boxing manager Sam Watson says that nobody wants to fight former IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (29-3, 19 KOs). Watson says that fighters talk about wanting to fight Khan, but then they fail to show their interest by signing the dotted line for a fight to take place.

Watson didn’t mention any specific fighters who he feels is ducking Khan, and he doesn’t mention the contract money these fighters are being offered to fight Khan. A lot of fighters such as Shawn Porter, Keith Thurman, Robert Guerrero, Devon Alexander and Kell Brook have all said in that recent past that they’d be interested in fighting Khan.

The fact that the fights haven’t happened can’t be due them being afraid of Khan, can it? They don’t sound like they’re afraid of fighting Khan. On the contrary, guys like Alexander, Brook and Thurman BADLY want to get Khan in the ring. If they’re not signing the dotted line to face him, then you have to wonder what kind of money, if any, they’re being offered to fight him.

“Nobody wants to fight Amir Khan,” Watson said via esnewsreporting.com. “They always talking about them wanting to fight Amir Khan. No, he’s getting better, and better, and better and better. He’ll fight anybody at any time. Al Haymon is going to get a big [expletive] fight coming up and he’s [Khan] going to win. He’s not going to lose. Nobody wants to fight Amir Khan. They all say they watch the dotted line to see if they sign. Somebodies going to sign because Al’s going to make somebody sign.”

It’s going to be interesting to see who Haymon digs up to put in with Khan for the so-called “big fight” that Watson is talking about for Khan’s next fight in December. What I’ve been hearing is that Khan is going to be fighting 2nd tier fighter Josesito Lopez next, and he’s not even a top tier fighter.

Lopez has lost a mess of fights in the last 2 years and beaten nobody that you can call a good fighter. If Haymon drags Lopez out there for Khan to fight, then I can hardly call that a “big fight”. Lopez isn’t even a name from yesterday like the old codgers that Khan has been fighting recently in facing past their prime ex-champions instead of relevant young contenders like Thurman.

“When it comes to signing the dotted line, they vanish,” Khan said.

It would be nice if Khan would mention the fighters by name that are actually vanishing when it comes to signing the dotted line. Is he talking about more fringe contenders and 2nd tier guys like little 5’6” Carlos Molina. I can’t see Thurman turning down a fight against Khan unless they were to give him a low ball offer that was simply too ridiculous for him to accept.
