Mayweather has super human powers, says Ellerbe

_DSC7880(Photo credit: Idris Erba/Mayweather Promotions) By Chris Williams: Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe sees the September 13th fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr (46-0, 26 KOs) and Marcos Maidana (35-4, 31 KOs) as a fight where anything can happen due to the tremendous skills that these two fighters bring to the table in their fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Ellerbe feels that Maidana’s huge punching power will keep him in the fight until the last second of action because he’ll always have the chance of scoring a stoppage, even if he’s trailing badly 11 rounds none. But at the same time Ellberbe recognizes the talent that Mayweather has in this fight with him being boxing’s most talented fighter bar none, and that incredible power is going to give Maidana problems this time because Mayweather is playing for keeps. He’s not going to take it easy on Maidana this time and give him a handicap again like in their first fight last May.

“Floyd has super human powers. He is an incredible athlete,” Ellberbe said. “What other athlete in sports has been undefeated in anything over the last 16-17 years? Who else has dominated their sport over that long of a period of time? Floyd Mayweather has been undefeated since 1996.”

What Ellberbe says is true. Mayweather hasn’t lost a fight since he turned pro, and it’s going to be next to impossible for Maidana to pull off an upset without his trainer Robert Garcia coming up with the perfect plan and Maidana following it to the letter.

Maidana can’t fight sloppy like he did the last time he fought Mayweather because that’s not going to work this time. Maidana needs to use tactics in this fight to try and lure Mayweather in the way Juan Manuel Marquez lured Manny Pacquiao in before knocking him out.

Mayweather doesn’t wild like Pacquiao, so it’s going to be very difficult for Maidana to play a game of chess with him on September 13th. Mayweather will never run into one of Maidana’s punches like Manny did with Marquez. That means that if Maidana wants to win this fight, he’s going to need to do it the hard way by thinking ahead of what Mayweather is doing and looking for ways of landing his big shots.

Ellerbe said “You can’t look past September 13. Mayhem – Mayweather vs. Maidana 2. We just had a fighter get knocked out, who was the heavy favorite going into a fight. We are not looking past Marcos Maidana.”

Mayweather isn’t looking past Maidana in this fight. He knows he can’t afford to overlook a fighter with the kind of power that Maidana possesses. He’s going to be looking to box Maidana, and throwing a lot more punches in this fight than the last time they fought. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see Kenny Bayless halt the fight if Mayweather opens up with a 20 punch flurry on Mayweather. In watching Mayweather work out on Tuesday, I get the feeling he’s going to open up with everything he’s got once he has Maidana on his heals fighting defensively. Mayweather seems to be throwing more punches now and that makes him dangerous.
