Carl Frampton: I have the power to KO any super bantamweight in the world

frampton33By Scott Gilfoid: #2 IBF Carl Frampton (18-0, 13 KOs) will be getting a second shot at IBF super bantamweight champion Kiko Martinez (31-4, 23 KOs) in their rematch this Saturday night at the Titanic Quarter, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom.

Frampton isn’t known for being a big puncher, but he believes he could knockout anybody in the 122 pound division.

“I also know I have the power to knock any super-bantamweight in the world out,” Frampton said.

It’s interesting that Frampton thinks he has the power to KO anybody in the super bantamweight division because WBA/WBO 122 pound champion Guillermo Rigondeaux has reportedly been interested in fighting Frampton for quite some time, but he’s not had a chance to share the ring with him. It would be nice to see Frampton test his theory about him being able to KO everybody I the super bantamweight division by having fight Rigondeaux so if we could see if he’s for real or just a talker.

“I’m preparing for a hard, grueling fight, that may take 12 rounds but no matter what happens I’m going to win,” Frampton said.

I see Martinez winning this fight on Saturday because I believe that Frampton has become too overconfident with his recent successes. His ego seems out of proportion with his accomplishments. I mean, I could understand Frampton bragging about himself if he had actually beaten someone good like Rigondeaux or Leo Santa Cruz, but not for the guys that Frampton has beaten during his career. He doesn’t have any real high quality wins during his career.

Frampton defeated Martinez by a 9th round knockout last year in February, but failed to do anything substantial with the win due to poor matchmaking in his subsequent fights. While Frampton was wasting his time fighting Jeremy Parodi and Hugo Cazares, Martinez rebounded from his defeat and took on the higher quality opponents in IBF super bantamweight champion Jhonatan Romero, Jeffrey Mathebula and Hozumi Hasegawa. This is why Martinez is the IBF champion and Frampton just a challenger for this Saturday’s rematch.

“So it could be a 12-round points decision or it could be over in the first round,” Frampton said. “Nevertheless, I’m preparing for a very hard and brutal fight then we can talk about future fights.”

I do agree that the Frampton vs. Martinez fight will likely be a grueling affair with a lot of action, but I don’t agree that Frampton is going to win the fight.
