By Allan Fox: Austin Trout (26-2, 14 KOs) made weight today in his comeback fight on Friday night against Australian Daniel Dawson (40-3-1, 26 KOs) at the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, California.

Trout will be trying to end his 2-fight losing streak when he gets in the ring with the 36-year-old Dawson. The fight will be televised on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights. The televised portion of the fight card will start at 6:00 p.m. PT.

Dawson weighed 154 pounds, as did Trout. In looking at both of them standing side by side, Trout looked considerably bigger, not just in height but also in side. He seems like the bigger fighter.

You can expect Trout to rehydrate to over 170+ for the fight. He’s technically big enough to be fighting in the middleweight division, but he’s resisting the idea of moving up in weight for some reason.

It’s quite possible he likes the edge that it gives him when he’s able to rehydrate up to the 170s after making weight at 154. It allows Trout to be the bigger guy in many of his fights, and this no doubt helps him out. If Trout were to move up to 160, he’s have no weight advantage and would need to depend on his boxing skills to win his fights instead of his power.

Trout lost his two fights to Saul “Canelo”Alvarez and Erislandy Lara. A lot of boxing fans thought Trout was robbed in the Canelo fight because he out worked him in most of the rounds. He had Canelo on the ropes the last six rounds of the fight. Trout wants to beat Dawson on Friday and then take the victory to try and get a rematch against Canelo or Lara.

In the co-feature bout on the card, light welterweight Erick Bone will be facing Mahonri Montes in a 10 round fight.
