Kell Brook should fight Bundu if he loses to Porter

Kell Brook(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Matthias Predonzan: IBF welterweight title-fight between the champion Shawn Porter and the contender Kell Brook will be stylistically an interesting fight even if, in my opinion, the outcome is quite certain on August 16th at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Porter is a much stronger opponent for Brook and I believe the fight will be end inside the distance by referee stoppage.

I was really impressed by Porter when he fought Devon Alexander: he out-boxed him and punished him relentlessly for the whole fight. This was surprising to me because Alexander is himself one very good fighter, but he never found the way to solve the problem of Porter’s speed and timing.

Having seen the last 5-6 fights of Brook, including the double clash against Carson Jones and the not really brilliant performance against Vyacheslav Senchenko, who, even if he lost the fight by 4th round TKO, was able to expose Brook’s chin,  I have the feeling that Brook has not the capacity to control Porter’s aggressiveness and power.

Porter was also able to get easily the best of Paulie Malignaggi last April not winning by decision, as the most of boxing observers thought, but by TKO.

In other words, Porter was able to face two elite fighters, in probably the best weight class  of the moment and dominate both with convincing and spectacular performances.

Much of the credit has to be recognized to Brook’s promoters who were able to put him in line for an important title shot, without their boxer having never faced world class opponents before.

He only held some of the many, useless, junior world titles; he never fought for an European championship, avoiding carefully to fight any dangerous fighter.

To be honest, not too much fortune for British boxers in the welterweights class in the last years.

After Ricky Hatton’s sunset and with Amir Khan’s ups and downs, the two other British prospects, Lee Purdy and Frankie Gavin were both defeated in England, by the Italian European-champion Leonard Bundu.

I admired British fans sportiness in the two occasions and therefore I’m asking, in the name of all Italian fans, to give an opportunity to Bundu to fight Brook after he loses to Porter.

If Brook, as I think, will lose to Porter. Brook will need to rebuild his name after that defeat if he still wants to fight Khan. What a better opportunity for that than to revenge Purdy’s and Gavin’s losses by fighting Bundu?

In case of an unexpected victory, the same argument above, meaning to revenge Purdy’s and Gavin’s defeat, still could make Bundu’s fight a good option for Brook.

Bundu’s style is very exciting. He reminds me Richy Hutton’s movement, speed, explosive flurries and relentless pressure.

Even a fight between Porter and Bundu will be great.

The two boxers have a similar style in some districts. Therefore, being both very smart fighters, one of the two will need to change his boxing style, to have a chance to prevail against his opponent.
