Kell Brook vs Shawn Porter(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Lewis: Special #1 IBF Kell Brook (33-0, 22 KOs) really lived up to his nickname last night by out pointing the talented and proven IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (24-0-1, 15 KOs) in handing him his first defeat of his career at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. The final judges’ scores were 114-114, 117-111 and 116-112, all for Brook.

This win has opened up many doors for the Sheffield fighter who trains at the well known Ingle gym that produced Prince Naseem, such as potential fights against Amir Khan, Floyd Mayweather Jr, Manny Pacquiao, Devon Alexander, Keith Thurman, Tim Bradley and a rematch with Porter if Brook wants it. Porter said after the fight that he wants a rematch with Brook.

I really hope he fights the best now after a long career of fighting fringe contenders. Leonard Bundu the current European champion who recently beat Frankie Gavin would be a great homecoming fight and first defence.

The welterweight division really is where the money is at the moment and a fight against Amir Khan at Wembley stadium would generate a lot of interest. Khan expressed interest last night that he’d be interested in fighting Brook in the UK. Khan says he’ll speak with his management to see if a fight like that is possible. Khan already has a couple of fighters that that his team are looking at closely for his next fight.

I would love to see to see Brook fight Danny Garcia if he wins a potential clash with Lamont Peterson.

Other money fights include Juan Manuel Marquez, Adrien Broner and Timothy Bradley.

That’s 6 winnable fights Eddie Hearn, Brook’s promoter, should look to make Kell to give him a Genuine pound-for-pound status. Hopefully around this time Mayweather and Pacquiao will have retired, Keith Thurman moved up in weight and Khan would have beaten Devon Alexander. Because those four fighters need to be avoided at all costs.
