Froch asks fans to pick from Chavez Jr, DeGale and Golovkin for his next fight

froch1111By Scott Gilfoid: Taking a page out of the playbook of Floyd Mayweather Jr, IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch is asking fans on his Facebook page to pick his next opponent from the following fighters: Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, James DeGale and Gennady Golovkin.

As of now, Chavez Jr is ahead of Golovkin with 9,649 likes to his 6,320. DeGale is right behind Golovkin at 6,329 likes. Froch didn’t add all the fighters’ names at the same time. He started with Chavez Jr and DeGale 6 hours ago and Golovkin 4 hours ago.

We can conclude that boxing fans aren’t all that interested in seeing Froch fight DeGale. If his name was put up there at the same time as Golovkin’s name, he would be well behind. As far as Chavez Jr and Golovkin, it’s hard to say who would be ahead if Froch put their names down at the same time.

Froch waited 2 hours after posting Chavez Jr’s name before he added Golovkin’s. Was this on purpose to make sure that Chavez Jr would have a better chance of winning competition? It’s possible. I mean, Golovkin is arguably a heck of a lot more dangerous for Froch than Chavez Jr.

All you need to do is watch the sparring session between Chavez Jr and Golovkin in the past to know that Golovkin is a far bigger threat to Froch than Chavez Jr. In that sparring session, Golovkin totally dominated Chavez Jr for the entire session. It was totally one-sided with Golovkin having his way with Chavez Jr. It’s not surprising that Froch would be interested in fighting Chavez Jr, because that guy is there to be hit and he doesn’t cut off the ring well.

Froch’s promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport already said no to the idea of Froch facing Golovkin recently when he said the fight wouldn’t be a pay-per-view worthy fight on HBO. The thing is Chavez Jr-Froch isn’t a pay-per-view worthy fight either. Froch doesn’t have the fan base to sell a fight between him and Chavez Jr in the U.S on HBO PPV fight. It would have to be a regular HBO fight unless they’re okay with poor PPV numbers.

Golovkin might mess up Hearn’s plans for Froch by beating him and ruining his potential fights against Chavez Jr, DeGale and Mikkel Kessler. Those are three fights that Hearn wants to make with Froch, but they’ll lose value if Golovkin massacres Froch first. As such, I don’t see Golovkin being allowed to get anywhere near Froch, even if he wins the poll on Froch’s Facebook. Golovkin’s just too dangerous for Froch.
