Golovkin-Geale winner could face Soliman next

golovkin63By Scott Gilfoid: IBF middleweight champion Sam Soliman (44-11, 18 KOs) will be watching tonight’s fight between WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (29-0, 26 KOs) and Daniel Geale (30-2, 16 KO’s) with great interest because he’s hoping to get the winner of the fight to face him later this year in a unification match.

Soliman has had easier title-milking fights offered to him against Andy Lee, Matthew Macklin and Martin Murray, but he wants to face the best in the winner of the Golovkin vs. Geale fight.

“I’ve had offers to fight Andy Lee in Ireland…I’ve had interest from Matthew Macklin and Martin Murray in the UK. I’ve been offered plenty of easy fights but I’m 40 now and I only want the really big fights at the end of my career,” Soliman said. “The biggest fight for me is to unify the world titles against Geale-Golovkin winner.”

Yeah, I think Soliman would beat Lee, Macklin and Murray easy by out-boxing them if any of them were willing to step up and take the fight with him for his IBF title. Soliman is too crafty and his engine too good for guys that don’t have the work rate or skills that he possesses.

Golovkin is pretty much going to do a number on Geale tonight unless we see some miracle upset. I don’t see that happening though. Soliman vs. Golovkin might be a decent scape for November, which is when Golovkin wants to fight again.

Soliman might give Golovkin some problems. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is a fight that Golovkin is extended the full 12 round distance in. But even if he does smash Soliman, it’ll still be a good fight with the opportunity for him to fight for another world title at 160.

Soliman beat Felix Sturm last May by a 12 round unanimous decision to win his IBF 160 pound title. Sturm has previously whipped Darren Barker in stopping him in 2 rounds to capture his IBF title in December of last year. But Sturm didn’t have the talent to deal with Soliman’s high paced style and his constantly changing punching angles.

Golovkin wants the big names for his next fight, but I foresee him having to settle for a fight against Soliman after he gets bypassed by all the top guys he wants.

Golovin-Soliman would be huge in Australia and I could see this fight being staged in a big arena and obviously being put on pay-per-view in the country.

If Geale beats Golovkin tonight, it sets up a huge fight between Geale and Soliman for this year in an all Australian match-up.
