Fury using farm equipment to get ready for Chisora rematch

fury52By Scott Gilfoid: #4 WBO Tyson Fury (22-0, 16 KO’s) has been pushing around tractors and flipping huge tires to get ready for his rematch against #1 WBO Dereck Chisora (20-4, 14 KO’s) in their rematch this month on July 26th at the Phones 4u Arena in Manchester, UK.

The Chisora-Fury II fight was given the green light as a WBO heavyweight eliminator bout despite the fact that there are other guys ranked ahead of Fury by the WBO in Andy Ruiz and Deontay Wilder.

Fury is going to need to be careful with his pushing of tractors and lifting of tires, because the last thing he needs is to blow out his back. I mean, lifting a tire is potentially a dangerous thing unless you have a history of weight lifting. Judging by Fury’s physique, my guess is he’s not been a huge weight lifter during his lifetime, and it’s probably not a good idea for him to start this close to an important fight.

“Pushing a tractor is a killer, if anybody thinks it’s easy, come down here and have a try and you’ll see,” Fury said. “The tractor is over three tons, it takes every last ounce of strength in my body, but I’m pushing it back. With every push of the tractor wheel, all I’m thinking about is puncturing Chisora’s face with every punch I throw. When Chisora’s in front of me and he’s trying to bulldoze his way in, he’ll be coming up against an immovable object, he’ll be like a bug hitting a windscreen.”

I don’t know that pushing around farm equipment is going to improve Fury’s punching power. It might make him a little more rugged so that he can push Chisora off of him when he starts to crowd, but I don’t see it helping his punching power. If this was an MMA fight that involves a lot of wrestling on the canvas, then I could see how pushing around tractors and lifting tires would help Fury for that kind of fight.

Fury said, “Another killer exercise is flipping the tractor tyre, it’s probably the best all round strength exercise there is. Flipping the tyre, uses the back, chest, arm and leg muscles, while pulling the tyre back uses the inner core strength involving the stomach muscles. The actual boxing is easy compared to this.”

I wonder who gave Fury the bright idea to start using farm equipment to get ready for the Chisora fight. It doesn’t make much sense to me. Fury easily beat Chisora three years ago without using these training techniques, so is he messing with success?

It seems to me he should train as he normally does and make sure he does plenty of cardio to burn the blubber around his midsection. He can’t come into this fight weighing 274 like he did in his recent fight against Joey Abell. That lard needs to go for this fight. If Fury can get down into the 240s, he might be okay, but I have my doubts that he’ll be able to take off that kind of fat pushing around tractors and lifting tires.
