Fury: I want Stiverne after Ustinov; Chisora lost his chance of ever fighting me again

fury5667By Scott Gilfoid: Tyson Fury (22-0, 16 KO’s) says that Dereck Chisora burned his bridges with him pulling out of his scheduled fight with him this Saturday night in Manchester, and that he’s never going to attempt to put together another fight with the 30-year-old Chisora again.

Fury says he’s moved on with his career and that Chisora lost his chance. Fury will be facing replacement opponent #8 IBF, #9 WBA Alexander Ustinov (29-1, 21 KOs) this Saturday night in what Fury calls a “50-50 fight” at the Phones 4U Arena.

If Fury beats Ustinov, he wants to then leap frog over Deontay Wilder to challenge WBC heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverne for his title. Fury is currently ranked #10 by the WBC, so the only way Stiverne could fight him is if it were to be an optional title defense, which he currently doesn’t have available to him given that he was recently ordered by the WBC to fight Deontay next.

“As far as I’m concerned Dereck Chisora is history – finished,” Fury said via rte.ie. “After I’ve done with this lummox [Ustinov] in front of me, I want Bermane Stiverne for the WBC title. I’m not interested in Dereck Chisora, he ain’t got enough credibility to lace my boots up, never mind step in the same ring. He’s a s***house who dropped his b******s in training. Chisora is another David Haye – a wannabe. A wannabe Tyson Fury opponent in hindsight who realizes the daunting task ahead and decides I’ll live to fight another day rather than get annihilated.”

So there it is. Chisora has supposedly lost his chance of ever fighting Fury again for all time. This is funny. Fury is saying this now, but if Ustinov stretches him on Saturday night or if someone else like Deontay blasts him out, we could see Fury scheduled once again with a fight against Chisora. I mean, who else would there be for Fury to fight if he gets smashed by Ustinov?

It’s not as if he could get a big money fight against one of the other non-British heavyweights. Chisora would be his best bet to try and get a payday and rebuild his career. But in theory, Fury wouldn’t need another fight against Chisora ever if he were to destroy Ustinov and move on to have a long successful career as an eventual world champion. Fury would be in a different lane than Chisora and wouldn’t need to fight a guy who has failed each time he’s stepped up in the past against world class opposition.

At the same time the risk involved in trying to fight Chisora again might be deemed too high for Fury given Chisora pulling out of this fight. If Fury is riding high as a champion, then why would he want to potentially waste 6 months of his career against a guy he’s not absolutely certain will make it through training camp without getting injured again.

Fury obviously feels that Chisora got a case of cold feet and decided he’d be better off pulling out of the fight rather than taking another beating from him. But Fury also feels that Chisora should have taken the fight anyway even if he were injured in order to not let down the fans that had paid their hard-earned money to see them mix it up.

The question is would Fury fight Chisora if he knew he had a fractured hand? We’ll never know. But Chisora would stand to lose a lot if he were to go into the fight with his best weapon, his left hook, derailed due to a fractured hand. If Chisora were to lose that fight, he’d have a heck of a time trying to rebuild his career.
