Sanchez: We hope Geale will bring out the best in Golovkin

For the most part Golovkin’s past opponents have elected to fight him rather than run, but Geale is a fighter known for his movement. It stands to reason that he’ll use even more movement against a puncher like Golovkin than he’s ever used before in the past. What this means is that it could be a dull affair potentially with Golovkin having to chase Geale around the ring for 12 rounds unless Geale realizes that he’ll never win a fight like that.

“Geale boxes a little more, we’ve been very confident of the past opponents running away but we don’t anticipate that from him,” Sanchez said. “Hopefully he will bring out the very best of Gennady. The better he is, the better it will be for Gennady to perform.”

Geale showed a combination of boxing and punching in his fights against Anthony Mundine, Felix Sturm, and Darren Barker. Those three fighters were easily the best opposition that Geale has faced during his 10 year pro career. However, none of them are even close to being as good as Golovkin, and that’s why it’s difficult to predict how well Geale will do against him or how he’ll choose to fight.

Geale was forced to move a lot in his loss to Barker in 2013, because he didn’t have the power to stand up to the big shots from Barker. But against Golovkin, Geale is going to have many more problems because he doesn’t have the power or the chin to stand in the pocket and exchange with him.

“Geale is more accomplished, he’s a two-time world champion and he’s the most experienced boxer at the top level that we’ve fought. He’s got the most to gain and is on the cusp of being a world champion again,” Sanchez said.

Geale has the talent to be a champion if matched up against the likes of IBF champ Sam Soliman. But his chances of beating the other middleweight title holders are slim at best. Geale doesn’t match up well against WBC champ Miguel Cotto, and he also would have problems against WBO champ Peter Quillin.
