By Dan Ambrose: In two weeks, Showtime ALL ACCESS Canelo vs. Lara episode 1 will be televised on Showtime. This is the preview of the July 12th pay-per-view fight between WBA junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in their fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Episode of the Canelo-Lara series will be televised at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

This is a very important fight for both Canelo and Lara, because the winner of the fight could be in the running for a big money fight against Miguel Cotto, although it’s likely that Cotto would take a pass on fighting Lara if he comes out on top in the Canelo fight due to Lara’s difficult fighting style. Beating an old Sergio Martinez is much different thing for Cotto than trying to beat a healthy fighter that is still relatively young like the 31-year-old Lara.

The second episode of Canelo vs. Lara will be televised next month on July 9th at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT.

Canelo, 23, will be looking to get his second consecutive victory since his 12 round decision loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr last year in September in a disappointing loss for the red-haired Canelo.

The “Honor & Glory: Canelo vs. Lara card will have former three division world champion Abner Mares fighting Jonathan Oquendo in a tune-up fight, as Mares hasn’t fought since he was knocked out last year in August by Jhonny Gonzalez in losing by a 1st round knockout.

Also on the July 12th PPV card will be Mauricio Herrera fighting Johan Perez in light welterweight action. To round out the card, Juan Manuel Lopez will be taking on the always tough Francisco Vargas in the 126lb division.

The tickets for the Canelo-Lara fight card are reasonably priced at $750, $500, $250, $150 and $75 price ranges, not including applicable service charges. Tickets are limited to eighteen (18) per person with a limit of eight (8) at the $75 price ranges. To charge by phone with a major credit card, call Ticketmaster at (800) 745-3000. Tickets also are available for purchase at www.mgmgrand.com or www.ticketmaster.com.

Lara figures to be a very difficult opponent for Canelo, because we saw in his loss to Mayweather that he can’t handle movement very well. There won’t be open scoring for this fight, because that’s something that the World Boxing Council does, but not the WBA. Canelo doesn’t want to fight for Lara’s WBA strap because he still believes that Mayweather is the real WBA 154lb champion, and not Lara, who holds the secondary WBA 154lb title.
