price565(Photo Wende) By Scott Gilfoid: Former British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion David Price (16-2, 14 KO’s) made weight on Friday for his dangerous 8-round clash against the hard hitting but limited Ondrej Pala (33-4, 23 KO’s) on Saturday night at the Blue Water Dokken, Esbjerg, Denmark. Price weighed in at 244.2lbs, and looked in good shape as always.

Price, 6’8”, always looks in good shape for his fights. His problem is his chin and hiss stamina. He’s been knocked out in 2 out of his last 4 fights. His new German promoters decided to take his career backwards and start from scratch in order to get him to stop losing, and to have him learn how to fight without getting hit so much.

Thus far, I haven’t seen any improvement in the 30-year-old Price’s game, as he looked the same as he always does in his last fight in beating some unknown fighter named Istvan Ruzsinszky last January.

Pala, 29, weighed in at 231lbs. He’s coming off of a 1st round knockout win over Roman Cherney from last February. In his fight before that, Pala was knocked out from some beautiful rabbit punches to the back of the head from Dereck Chisora in a 3rd round knockout last November. Chisora had perfect placement of his rabbit punches, and referee didn’t lift a finger to penalize or disqualify Chisora for the rabbit shots. Heck, he even got a knockout with the shots.

Pala did show excellent power in the Chisora fight, as he was able to stagger him on three separate occasions in the fight before being taken out with some mean rabbit shots.

Price is going to need to get to Pala early in this fight, because if he lets this guy hang around for long, he’s going to test his considerable power on Price’s fragile chin.

If Price gets knocked out on Saturday night by Pala then it’ll be pretty much over for Price. Sure, he can keep fighting if he wants to after this, but it’ll be over with for intents and purposes.

Other fights on the card:

Erik Skoglund vs Danilo D’Agata
Anthony Yigit vs. Kasper Bruun
David Price vs. Ondrej Pala
Andy Lee vs. Frank Haroche Horta
Mateusz Masternak vs. Stjepan Vugdelija
Andreas Evensen vs. Kakhaber Avetisian
