Mayweather to pick his next opponent after Super Bowl, says Watson

mayweather22206By Chris Williams: Floyd Mayweather Jr. will be selecting his next opponent for his May 3rd fight sometime after the Super Bowl, according to Sam Watson, associate of the powerful adviser Al Haymon. Mayweather wants to wait until after the Super Bowl because he has a lot of things going on with his life right now, and he wants to get these things out of the way first before he reveals who his next opponent will be for his Showtime pay-per-view fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

It’s probably not going to be that big of a shocker when Mayweather makes his announcement because Amir Khan has already let the cat out of the bag a long time ago by saying that he’s the one that Golden Boy Promotions has been talking to for the fight. Of course, Mayweather could pull a shocker by saying he wants someone like Gennady Golovkin or Marcos Maidana, but that’s not likely to happen.

“Floyd is taking his time,” Sam Watson told thaboxingvoice. “He will be picking his fighter after the Super Bowl, Super Bowl Sunday. So next week you should hear something from Floyd’s camp. Mayweather is getting ready. He is at the Super Bowl, so he is having a good time every day…Floyd’s ready.”

It makes sense for Mayweather to wait until after the Super Bowl to announce his next opponent, because if he revealed who is it before the Super Bowl, fans wouldn’t care as much because most of the attention is on the Super Bowl game between the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks. Once all the talk is done with that game, Mayweather can then get the Nation’s attention all to himself when he reveals who his opponent will be.

Hopefully, Mayweather picks a good opponent for him to fight because he’ll really be letting down a lot of fans if he picks Khan to fight. It’s not that Khan isn’t a good fighter. He was a good fighter at one time, and he’s still a halfway decent guy. But Khan is more in the class of Julio Diaz now instead of being among the top fighters at 140 or 147. Khan has a small window where he was one of the best fighters at 140, but his day is now done. He would be massacred by the likes of Lucas Matthysse, Keith Thurman, Manny Pacquiao, Ruslan Provodnikov, and Danny Garcia.

Mayweather would impress fans more if he announced that he wanted to fight someone like Maidana, Erislandy Lara, Keith Thurman or Golovkin. Fighting Khan will be a let down.
