2014 Fights I hope happen

khan1010By Jamie Fairclough: 2013 was a decent year for boxing with a lot of exciting fights a couple of mega fights and quite a few stinkers, now we are in the last couple of weeks of 2013 I thought id look to next year at some fights I either think there is a possibility of or that I hope materialize.

1. Amir Khan v Floyd Mayweather – Okay guys hear me out this year Floyd took a gamble fighting Saul “Canelo” Alvarez because of the size difference, but he showed again why he is the best fighter in the world and one of the best ever. Canelo’s downfall was Mayweather was just way to fast and slick for him, this is where Khan comes in as he is the one fighter who has equal if not better punch speed than Floyd. People will say oh Khan has no chin or things along those lines, but Mayweather isn’t a big puncher he is quick and accurate so his style matches up with khans weakness his chin. I still think Mayweather will be too good for khan but I believe he will come closer than most have.

2. Carl Froch v George Groves 2 – This one explains itself, groves had the cobra in all kinds of trouble, too quick, too accurate, and at least earlier in the fight exhibited the kind of power needed to floor Froch in the first round and for me groves was not in as much trouble as the referee thought and was robbed in my eyes, I hope Froch agrees to a rematch as his ego(even if he doesn’t admit it publicly) will be bruised that he was being whipped by someone he deemed not in his league but I doubt he will as it will be exactly the same except I don’t think groves will go so mad with throwing punches and pace the fight a bit more.

3. Adonis Stevenson v Sergey Kovalev – What a fight this would be, the underrated boxing skill of Stevenson and his pure punching power against Kovalev devastating power would make this one almost impossible to call, maybe Kovalev would be favored as Stevenson has shown he can be knocked out whatever happens it will be a hell of a fight and if it ends any other way than a knockout id be shocked.

4. David Haye v Tyson Fury – Now I know Haye will take a good chunk of the year to see if he will be ok to fight again, but if he does I hope we see this one yes fury and his camp have said they wont deal with Haye again but money talks these days, and fury will know that haye of old would wipe the floor with him and he will believe he can beat him now so don’t be surprised if his ego(which is the same over-inflated size Haye’s is) will get the better of him.

5. Gennady Golovkin v Andre Ward – This would be such a fascinating fight, ward has all the skills to frustrate Golovkin and is clearly the only boxer who could conceivably challenge Floyd Mayweather on pure boxing skill, but on the flip side you have Golovkin’s pure power that could easily hurt ward if and it’s a big if he can lay a hand on him.

Now I thought id only list 5 but please leave comments on your fights that you would like to see as there is plenty of scope out there.
