746By Allan Fox: 36-year-old former two-time world champion Tomasz Adamek (49-2, 29 KO’s) could put himself in position for another world title shot if he beats Ukrainian Vyacheslav Glazkov (15-0-1, 11 KO’s) in their scheduled 12 round bout this Saturday night at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino, in Verona, New York, USA.

A win for Adamek will put him at #2 by the IBF, and it will give IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko a reason to fight him. Adamek is the type of opponent that Wladimir likes to fight due to his large fan base, and his less than opposing size.

Adamek, #5 IBF, #9 WBC, had a title shot against Wladimir’s brother WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko in September of 2011, but he was taken out in 10 rounds in a hopelessly one-sided fight. Adamek has won five fights since then, albeit against weak opposition. He’s struggled in two of his fights against Eddie Chambers and Steve Cunningham and won controversial decisions in both fights. In his last bout, Adamek took no chances in facing journeyman Dominick Guinn last August in winning a 10 round unanimous decision. Adamek looked good against an opponent that was there for him to shine against. Whether Adamek can do the same against the 29-year-old Glazkov is another matter. Adamek is familiar with Glazkov because he was a recent sparring partner for him, and the two are friends. That shouldn’t keep the two from battling hard though because there’s too much on the line for them to take it easy in this fight.

Glazkov has decent skills and power, but he’s nothing special though. He was given a controversial 10 round draw in his fight against Malik Scott last February in Huntington, New York. Glazkov appeared to lose the fight by 4 rounds, but he was still given a draw out of it. He looked poor throughout and he faded badly in the 2nd half of the fight.

Adamek should easily win this fight on Saturday. Glazkov doesn’t have the kind of power or speed to give Adamek problems. There are a number of heavyweight contenders that would likely beat Adamek quite badly if given the chance, but Glazkov probably isn’t one of them. He doesn’t hit hard enough and he’s going to struggle in this fight. Glazkov’s only chance to win is if he goes after Adamek in the early rounds and tries to KO him before he starts gassing out in the 2nd half of the fight. However, without power, Glazkov is more likely to get knocked out than Adamek if he goes straight at him early.
