Mayweather vs. Canelo: 7 Day Pre-Fight Weigh-in

By Sal Arteaga: The official 7 day pre-fight weigh-in was held yesterday for Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s) and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s. Here are the official results: Mayweather weighed-in at 152.2 pounds and Canelo weighed in at 157.4 pounds. The bout will be held at a catchweight of 152 pounds, meaning Canelo has until Friday, September 13thto lose the additional 5.4 pounds.

This should pose no problem for Canelo, who has assured everyone he will make weight. In his last fight against Austin Trout (26-1, 14 KO’s), Canelo weighed-in officially at 153.5 pounds and weighed 159.2 at seven days before the fight.

Canelo’s on pace to make weight. The only time Canelo failed to make weight was in March of 2011 when he fought Matthew Hatton at a 150 pound catch-weight. Canelo tipped the scales at 151.8 pounds. Mayweather is on the mark coming in at 152.2 pounds. His last Jr. Middleweight bout was against Miguel Cotto (May, 2012) at the regular 154 pound weight limit, he weighed 151 pounds.
