Mayweather teaches Canelo a lesson

By Carlos Gonzalez: Yes, my dear boxing fans, yes. Once again Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO´s) showed the world and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-1-1, 30 KO´s) that he is the best pound for pound boxer in the business. Mayweather took the center of the ring like he does in all his fights. This is the place where he feels comfortable, this is the place where he makes the magic, and this is the place where he shut down Canelo last night. Mayweather pounded Canelo with 505 punches out of which 232 landed.

The punches were of all sorts which come to no surprise considering Mayweather´s skill and accuracy. Mayweather manage to go in and out using his lighting speed jab, and in many occasions following it up with an accurate right hand that definitely was leaving bruises on young Canelo´s face.

Mayweather´s defense was as good as always and he put his amazing footwork in action to move all around the ring with the ease of a young Mohammed Ali. Canelo, fighting at 152lbs after dropping lots of weight, threw 526 punches but he could only land 117. None of his punches showed the power that all of his fans were expecting, perhaps due to this hard weight loss that he went through.

Saul “Canelo” Alvarez even appeared to be tired at some stages of the fight and only in the last four rounds, where he was pushing Mayweather closer to the ropes, he was landing more punches with the good use of his left hook-right hand combination that has served him so well in previous fights.

The twelve rounder event ended in a victory for Money Mayweather, this was no surprise but what was really shocking was the judge´s scorecards of 114-114 , 116-112, 117-114, the 114-114 by C.J. Ross, the same judge that generated the controversial defeat that Manny Pacquiao faced against Timothy Bradley. Mrs. Ross was watching a different fight as it was clear that this fight was a 120-108 with Money Mayweather winning all rounds.

Mrs. Ross should not be allowed to act as a judge as he is clearly a total shame to the sport. I think the other judges were very generous with Canelo as well, but closer to the reality of what went on in the ring. Anyway my dear boxing fans, this was once again a great fight night worth to stay awake for alongside many other boxing fans in the UK that stayed and watched Money May do it all over again.
