By Dan Ambrose: The soon to be 36-year-old Zab Judah (42-8, 29 KO’s) has signed with Golden Boy Promotions to have his fights co-promoted. This potentially good news for boxing fans, because it gives Golden Boy another player to match against their 140 and 147 pounders.

You can bet Judah will be in their one of them very soon. I think perhaps the best fight for Judah right now is former WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi. That would be an idea fight, because both guys are coming off of losses.

You can’t put in with another world champion right now, because it doesn’t make a lot of sense until he redeems himself somehow. Judah lost his last fight to WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Danny Garcia last April in a 12 round unanimous decision loss.

Besides that, Judah has lost 2 out of his last 3 fights, and really 3 out of his last 5 fights if you could Judah’s highly questionable 12 round split decision win over Lucas Matthysse as a loss as well. I know I don’t recognize that as a win for Judah; not when he clearly lost the last 8 rounds of that fight badly.

If Golden Boy wants to try and match Judah against Malignaggi or Lamont Peterson, then I see this as a good move for them to sign Judah. But you can’t put Judah in with guys like Floyd Mayweather Jr., Amir Khan and Danny Garcia again, because Judah already got beat by all of them.

Boxing fans will know ahead of time that Judah would lose to all of them. What Golden Boy needs to do instead is put Judah in with guys that are more at his level now like Lamont Peterson and Malignaggi.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Golden Boy giving Judah a title shot against WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner if Broner gets past Marcos Maidana. Golden Boy won’t put Judah back in with Matthysse, because he’d get torn apart now. Judah has aged since his controversial win over Matthysse, and it would be a mismatch.

Golden Boy instead will be strategic with the guys they match Judah against, because some of the guys would just blow through him like he’s nothing right now.
