Pacquiao calls out Mayweather Jr. for a fight

pac322By Chris Williams: Upon learning that Floyd Mayweather Jr. perceives him as a totally shot fighter after his recent two defeats in the past year, Manny Pacquiao challenged Mayweather Jr. to fight him so he can prove that he’s better.

It’s understandable for Mayweather Jr. to see Pacquiao as a shot fighter. Look, Pacquiao was knocked out cold in his last fight by Juan Manuel Marquez, and he beaten before that by Tim Bradley.

The fight before that, Pacquiao was given a controversial 12 round decision over Marquez. That’s three straight losses – or at least it should be three straight losses.

Pacquiao said to the Boxingchannel “That’s good [that Mayweather Jr. sees him as being shot]. If he fights me, he can beat me easily. Why doesn’t he want to fight me if that’s what he’s thinking? Let’s get it on in the ring…Let’s fight. That’s good for you, because you can easily beat me in the ring.”

I don’t think Pacquiao realizes how things go in boxing. When a fighter starts getting beaten a lot like he has recently, it doesn’t make him a more appealing opponent for a fighter like Mayweather. It actually makes him a lot less appealing opponent, because it means that Mayweather won’t get much credit for having beaten him.

When two guys have already whipped Pacquiao, then what does Mayweather Jr. stand to gain to be the third or possibly even the 4th if Brandon Rios does a number on Pacquiao as well on November 23rd.

It’s not even sporting when it gets to the point where a fighter is getting beaten each time he fights. I know for some champions and top contenders, they like the idea of fighting a guy on the downside of his career, but Mayweather Jr. doesn’t appear to be one of those types of guys. He only wants the best, and I think Pacquiao is short of that mark right now with his recent defeats.
