Khan looking for a December opponent to get ready for Mayweather bout in 2014

khan3334By Scott Gilfoid: With IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander saying no to Amir Khan’s choice of fighting him in Dubai in front of what would be a huge pro-Khan crowd on December 7th, Khan is now looking for another opponent for his December fight in order to get ready for a mega fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2014.

Why Mayweather would want to fight a guy with 2 losses in his last 4 fight comes down to Khan having a large fan base in the UK. That’s pretty the only reason. Khan doesn’t have much of a fan base in the U.S, and he’s been pretty well exposed in his defeats against Danny Garcia and Lamont Peterson.

Golden Boy Promotions doesn’t want to wait for Khan to try and redeem himself before putting him in with Mayweather, and I can see why. I don’t think Khan can redeem himself. Heck, he was almost knocked out in his last fight by past his best Julio Diaz last April. You throw Khan back in the ring with Danny Garcia and Lamont Peterson, and I see him getting blasted out by both guys.

Khan said to Sky Sports “I have tried to get Devon Alexander. It was looking promising. He said he wanted to fight at the start and now it slowly seems that he is not 100 per cent sure about it, coming up with excuses…It’s all about moving to that big fight against Floyd Mayweather. Hopefully, getting this win against Alexander will get me into that fight.”

It sounds like Khan is confused. If he’s saying that Alexander isn’t eager to take the fight, then why is he still talking about Alexander? The man already said he’s not interested in fighting Khan in Dubai, and who can blame him. Alexander is the champion here, not the challenger.

Why should he fighting Khan in front of Khan’s own fans when he’s the champion? Alexander needs to lay it on the line and tell Khan it’s St. Louis, Missouri or nothing. Let Khan show how badly he wants the fight by going into the Lion’s den in St. Louis and getting a taste of what it’s like to fight in front of a huge crowd of 10,000 Alexander fans.

Khan isn’t going to beat Alexander anyway. Golden Boy needs to get a clue and talk some sense into Khan. We just saw Julio Diaz almost Khan. I had Diaz winning that fight after staggering Khan on three separate occasions in addition to knocking him down.

Golden Boy needs to dig up against 2nd tier lightweight to put Khan in with so that he doesn’t get whipped again, and blow his big money fight against Mayweather Jr. Golden Boy should know by now what they’re dealing with in promoting Khan.

Khan’s too fragile to put in with Alexander, and definitely way too fragile to match him with Lucas Matthysse, Danny Garcia or Keith Thurman. I could see someone like Andre Berto destroying Khan right about now. As bad as Berto looked in losing to Jesus Soto Karass recently, I think he’d spank Khan.

I think someone like Breidis Prescott would be a nightmare for Khan. We’re talking 2nd tier right now. Alexander is just way, way too good for the likes of Khan. He’s actually world class, and we pretty much saw Khan beaten by 2nd tier fighter Julio Diaz last April, but Diaz wasn’t given the decision.
