arreola33By Eric Thomas: A match-up between heavyweight contenders Chris Arreola (35-3, 30 KO’s) and Seth Mitchell (26-1-1, 19 KO’s) is almost a done deal for September 6th at the Fantasy Springs Casino, Indio, California, USA. It’s a fight between two flawed heavyweights, but the winner of the fight will be in a good position to get an eventual title shot against the WBC champion.

Mitchell is ranked #2 WBC, and Arreola #3 WBC. So the winner of this fight will be within striking distance of a title shot against WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko or Bermane Stiverne, if he’s able to get the WBC title by beating the 42-year-old Vitali or having the title given to him if Vitali ends up getting stripped for not defending the belt.

Arreola’s promoter Dan Goosen said to ESPN “We’re working to get this fight done. It’s a great fight for both fighters and I think it;’s a great fight fan’s fight. They’ll both come at each other. Fans areally love the fight heavyweights, especially ones that like to get in there and bang.”

This fight has 1st round knockout written all over it. Mitchell, a former football player, looks like he doesn’t belong anywhere near the top 5 in the heavyweight division. Mitchell was stopped in the 2nd round last November by Johnathon Banks, and he likely would have been knocked out in the first two rounds in their rematch last June had Banks not injured both of his hands.

Mitchell was badly hurt early in that fight, and the only reason he survived was because Banks suddenly stopped punching. This enabled Mitchell to box his way to an unimpressive 12 round decision.

Arreola won’t stop punching, and he’s got much better power than Banks does. If Arreola comes out quickly in the 1st round on September 6th, he’ll get Mitchell out of there immediately in the first minute of the round.
