3 Boxers Who Should Consider Moving up in weight

Arguably, the biggest case for a boxer to move up in weight is Chavez Jr. He is not just a big middleweight, but a boxer who should really be fighting a couple of divisions at least above middleweight. It is getting to the point where it is not just affecting his performance in draining 20-30 pounds before fight night but also his overall health and boxing career. I would like to see Chavez Jr. make the step up to 168 permanently after Vera and go after a world title. He has the talent and those extra few pounds will help

2. Andre Ward

Andre Ward really has no business left at 168. He has proven to be the no.1 at the division beating all the top names.  Andre is also a big super middleweight, having started out as a light heavy in the 2004 Olympics. Beating Dawson, who at the time was the best light heavy, proved that Andre can easily move up and conquer another division. Andre Ward vs Adonis Stevenson would be a huge fight – a classics technician vs big puncher fight. Further, Andre has big plans as stated in an interview of eventually going up to heavy weight. Andre is a big lad who certainly has potential to be a heavyweight physically, but, realistically, I can only see Andre being a top crusierweight.

3. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez

Canelo is a big 154 pounder –  the main reason Floyd Mayweather Jr. is for the first time in fighting a light middleweight, requesting Canelo drops to 152 when they face. Canelo’s overall physique – neck, chest and legs show that he can easily make 160 now. Has the power too. I can see Canelo being a world champion at 160 but first he has Mayweather. Win or lose, he should be considering 160.
