By Eric Thomas: With his fight against former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye postponed, #8 WBC heavyweight contender Manuel Charr (23-1, 13 KO’s) has decided to take a stay busy fight against 38-year-old Ukrainian Oleksiy Mazikin (14-8-2, 4 KO’s) in a scheduled 12 round bout at the Karl Eckel Halle, Hattersheim am Main, Hessen, Germany.

Charr, 28, will have his WBC Baltic heavyweight title on the line for the fight.

Charr was heading for a fight against Haye, but his fight plans with the British heavyweight were sidetracked after Haye injured his left hand in training.

Right now it’s still unknown if Haye will face Charr or not. Haye says he still wants to fight Charr, but Haye could end up facing British heavyweight Tyson Fury instead because it’s a much bigger fight than him facing Charr.

Charr was picked out last December by WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko and given what many boxing fans felt was an underserved shot at Vitali’s title. Charr hadn’t faced any quality opponents before that fight and it really showed because he was blown out by Vitali in four rounds.

Charr has won his last two fights since the Vitali fight in defeating Konstantin Airich and Yakup Saglam. He’s still not faced anyone good besides Vitali and it looks like that trend will continue until Charr gets a fight against Haye, if that fight happens.

Recently, Charr has been calling out unbeaten American Deontay Wilder to try and get him to fight him. There hasn’t been much interest from Deontay’s side in taking the fight with Charr, though.

It could be that Deontay is waiting to see what his promoters at Golden Boy have for him. Deontay doesn’t pick his own fights, and he’s not likely going to say yes to a fight against Charr unless it’s a fight that his promoters want him to take.
