malignaggi65By Scott Gilfoid: WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (32-4, 7 KO’s) really lost it during today telephone conference call with Adrien Broner (26-0, 22 KO’s) for their fight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Malignaggi broke in on Broner’s portion of the conference call.

Malignaggi said “I’m gonna beat you like you stole something. I’m going to beat the s**t out of you. I’m going to beat the s**t.”

The moderators finally had to cut Malignaggi because he wouldn’t let Broner talk and he kept swearing repeatedly. It’s too bad he wouldn’t let Broner get his turn without interrupting him because it was pretty sad to see Malignaggi losing control of himself.

Broner had to cut in and remind Malignaggi about his job as a Showtime announcer and how he was making himself look bad by using so many cuss words.

Broner said “Malignaggi needs to stop cussing because I want him to keep his job with Showtime. I’m going to f*** Paulie up. F*** Paulie. My check and my money is bigger than his.”

Broner really took the highroad in this conversation by coming across as the mature individual despite being 9 years younger than the 32-year-old Malignaggi.

I don’t know what got into Malignaggi. He came on the phone screeching for some reason. Either the stress of the fight has really gotten to him or he was in a bad, bad mood. Either way, it didn’t sound good the way that Malignaggi went ballistic when it was Broner’s time to talk. It’s not as if Broner was saying anything controversial. All Broner was doing was trying to explain what he was going to do to Malignaggi and that kind of set him off.

Could it be that Malignaggi is worried about losing the fight and having to fight without the title? There’s a huge difference from being a champion and being a challenger when you’re not a huge star like Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.
