Hennessey wants Haye vs. Fury next

fury1By Scott Gilfoid: Mick Hennessey, the promoter for unbeaten heavyweight Tyson Fury (21-0, 15 KO’s), is hoping to put together a fight between Fury and former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (26-2, 24 KO’s) this year. Hennessey thinks it’ll be a big fight in the UK in terms of attracting interest from boxing fans.

He might be right about it being a big fight, but it’ll likely go badly for the 6’9” Fury with him getting knocked out and badly exposed. Heck, Fury was pretty much already exposed in his last fight against Steve Cunningham last April. That’s the fight that Fury was knocked down in the 2nd round and hurt in the 3rd by right hands from the smallish Cunningham.

Hennessey said to thesun.co.uk “Haye is the right I want next because it doesn’t get any bigger than that for Tyson. It would be a shot in the arm for British boxing.”

It’s funny how Fury and Hennessey have changed their tune. Previously, they were all excited about fighting unbeaten contender Kubrat Pulev for the IBF mandatory spot but something suddenly has caused them to change their mind. I wonder what that is? Could it be that they both sat down and watched some of Pulev’s past fights and it put them off the job? Is that it?

Whatever the case, I think it’s a really, really smart move for them to be going in another direction than Pulev because the money wouldn’t have been good and the chances are, Fury would have been knocked cold and missed his chance at a shot at Wladimir Klitschko, the IBF heavyweight champion. If Fury can get a fight with Haye, he’ll get a nice payday in losing the fight.

I mean, if Fury is going to lose either way, he might as well get some nice cash, shouldn’t he? If I was Fury’s promoter I sure as heck wouldn’t want him fighting Pulev or a talent like Deontay Wilder. I’d be looking to cash out big time by putting him in with Haye so I could get a nice payday.

If Hennessey puts Fury in with Pulev or Wilder, he’s just going to get beaten and there would never be big cash out fight. Hennessey is showing a lot of intelligence by looking to match Fury with Haye before he gets whipped by one of the talents in the division like Wilder.
