alexander55By Scott Gilfoid: IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (25-1, 14 KO’s) will be looking to KO Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) this fall if Golden Boy Promotions are willing to put Khan in with Alexander.

Richard Schaefer, the CEO of Golden Boy, has laid out his plans for Khan by saying that he wants him to fight Alexander and then Floyd Mayweather Jr., as if the win over Alexander is a sure thing for Khan.

Kevin Cunningham, the trainer for Devon Alexander, told RingTV.com “We’re [Alexander] looking to check his chin. We’re looking to give Amir Khan a good old chin-checking I the fall.”

If Khan does take the fight, I think he could end up getting knocked out again. I mean, Alexander isn’t a huge puncher, but he can punch hard enough and with enough speed to take Khan out of there no problem.

The shots that Alexander was landing on his last opponent Lee Purdy last month were more than hard enough to get Khan out of there no matter which hand Alexander hit him with. Alexander broke his left hand in the 2nd round of the fight and was limited to throwing mainly right hands from the 4th round.

Schaefer wants to match Khan with Mayweather in the worst way because Golden Boy is running out of recognizable fighters to feed to Mayweather. However, with Khan having lost two out of his last four fights and with him not in possession of a title strap, Schaefer wants Khan to have one of the title belts before he matches him with Mayweather because it makes the fight look like a more competitive fight to casual boxing fans if both guys have a world title in their possession instead of just one.

Khan barely made it past 33-year-old Julio Diaz last April in winning a controversial 12 round unanimous decision in England. I had Diaz winning that fight and I think Khan should be fighting Diaz again in a do over because of how out of touch the judges’ scores were in that fight.

Khan looked awful in that fight and was staggered several times by Diaz and dropped once. Alexander is a lot faster than Diaz and he hits harder than him. If Alexander doesn’t suffer an injury like he did against Purdy, he knocks Khan out in this fight.
